Quite a lucky find for a couple of American travelers! Based on reviews I read elsewhere, this seems to be about the only affordable hotel(potentially Ibis Hotel too, but I didn’t talk to them) near the train station that’s actually pleasant to stay in. The staff here speaks English well. Their location is also about as close as you can get to the Brussels Midi train station, which is the main hub for trains going to Paris Gare du Nord, London St. Pancras, and other major stations. Their prices were actually quite reasonable by Brussels standards. In October, I paid 95 euros per night for a basic room for two, and they had a pretty extensive continental breakfast available for 15 euros per person. The room was also surprisingly spacious, especially compared to the Ibis Hotel I had stayed at in Leuven the night before. The soundproofing on the rooms is also excellent. The room was dead silent, which made me think Brussels must be a quiet city. Then, I tried opening my window and was shocked at the difference. The city is noisy, but you’d never know it in one of Hotel Cascade’s rooms. They also have actual luggage lockers where you can store your luggage after you’ve checked out of the hotel(they might even let you store luggage there if you didn’t stay at all… I didn’t ask). It cost 4 euros for up to 48 hours in a locker big enough for a big suitcase and maybe one or two smaller items. Most hotels just put your bags in a back room, but this option is much more secure. I highly recommend it. The downside to this place is that it’s in a rough part of town. Be very careful walking around here by yourself or at night. It’s about a 15 – 20 minute walk into central Brussels from this location, and maybe 5 minutes of that are spent walking through the bad side of town. I will say that I walked through here at night with my mate, then again during the day by myself, and I never experienced any problems at all. But it’s still definitely something to be aware of.
