I remember this place being quite good. Staff was friendly, the food was very good and I like the homey atmosphere of the place.

I’ve seen this place described as Vietnamese, Chinese and Thaï; sometimes all three at once. In fact it is run by a Chinese(Cantonese) family that cook a bit of everything, all quite decent, though it can be a bit hit and miss at times. We were a big group and had booked in advance so they’d kindly set us up at the round table at the back of the room with the rotating tray, otherwise known as a Lazy Susan. It made things much easier when it came to sharing a bunch of starters and mains for eight of us. I’d recommend you do the same if you are thinking of coming as a group(round tables are also nicer to have everyone involved in the conversations). Part of our group knew the place quite well, so we benefitted from very friendly service with the chef happy to turn some of the meat dishes into vegetarian friendly concoctions(using tofu). Some of us opted for menus while others took individual dishes. In the end we did a mish mash and shared most things. We each had a soup to start, and all seemed reasonably satisfied, especially those that stuck to the Tom Yam and Tom Kha variants. Next up came the Vietnamese spring rolls and steamed specialties. Unfortunately the rolls were very bland and somewhat disappointing. The dim-sum were better but packed into too tight a steamer so they ended up stuck to one another which resulted in a bit of carnage when trying to pluck them out. Mains went down much better than starters, though some did seem to fare better than others. The group shared noodles, duck, beef and tofu dishes. The duck in 5 spices was very nice, as were the noodles. Less exciting was the red curry beef which failed to impress compared to the Thai food only restaurants. Our vegetarians seemed content with the tofu dish, though had we not have known the owners, would we so easily have transformed a meat dish from the menu into a tofu variant? Who knows. Overall a good dinner, helped by the friendly service and excellent set-up for eight. The food gets a pass, with ups and lows. Does it warrant a return trip? Possibly for lunch rather than dinner, as menus are well priced offering good value for money and presumably some of their better dishes.
