Broer Bretel

Broer Bretel was recommended to me by a colleague. It is her favorite place for coffee in Antwerp — so I had to check it out.
I wasn’t sure at first if I had found the right place. If I hadn’t been searching for Broer Bretel, I’m not sure I’d have ever discovered it. From the outside you only see a green awning with «Espressobar» written on it. On closer inspection you will see «Broer Bretel» on the door.
When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the two friendly baristas in jeans shirts and khakis. I wanted to first find a place to sit before ordering. You have many options of seating including at the bar, small and community tables, and couches.
I love that the menu is actually a coffee menu. So many delicious choices! Because I went in the afternoon I was craving more a dessert coffee and ordered the maplecino (latte with maple syrup and cinnamon).
I know that there are a few reviews on here about the Wifi — but they have it now and it’s free! So if you just want to relax with a friend on the couch or work at one of the tables, this is a great spot with delicious coffee and friendly staff.

So close! I would like to give it 4.75 stars.
They have a great selection and variety in different kinds of coffee and also very cool ones. Try the Jules… That’s 100% Belgian.
BUT… Such a big butt again… I don’t get why coffeeshops in Belgian can’t have free WIFI! I would love to come here and work in between 2 clients but I can’t use free WIFI.
But next to that fact… it’s really chill. Cool jazzy musick on the background. Nice old school table and couches to chillax. Just your average coffeeshop but in Antwerp.

Barista Toon knows how to make good coffee… with attention to detail and not just making a boooring cappucine… every coffee is a piece of Art… the interior. Is cozy trendy old fashion… fun to hang out, read a book, library available… play piano… heard some great music played by guests.
Meet musicians and dancers of the Philharmonic orchestra of Antwerp and the Ballet of Flanders… Locals, tourists… sitting outside on the terras and watching the MAS and people walking by… a great place op ‘t eilandje… btw…the music is always interresting…

Super friendly staff, very reasonable prices, good music. Great place to get work done during the day. The Channel No. 8 iced tea (chamomile/​raspberry/​lemon) was perfect for a hot day of bike riding and enjoying Antwerp. The décor is very inviting and comfortable too. Well done!

Living in the same street, it was a pleasant surprise to discover a true coffee shop serving everything from cappuccino, café latte, espresso to exotics like chai latte and ice tea «Chanel No. 8». All are made by — in my opinion — the best barista in town who serves his customers in a friendly & attentive manner, paying attention to detail and presentation. This coffee shop is unique — starting from the unique 60/70’s retro interior style and wifi access to the hip location in Antwerp’s up-​and-​coming cultural district called ‘t Eilandje. In the surrounding area there are museums such as the MAS and soon the Red Star Line Museum as well as many hip bars, restaurants, art galleries, nightclubs and shops.
Don’t leave Antwerp without trying a café latte or chai latte at Broer Bretel !
