I enjoyed my quick stop at sips. One of my colleagues was singing the praises of this bar, so we came here to check it out. We were in a party of 7 people and we were lucky that we arrived right after they opened, as the place is rather small and they even state in the menu that they serve groups of 4 people max. The bar is really well stocked. I also saw some pretty cool homemade infusions. Also they apparently make their own gin and bitters, but they were both sold out. Anyway, on to the drinks: I asked for a vieux carré and it was pretty good. Where I live its hard to find rye whiskey, so it was one that I was looking forward to try. Well prepared and pretty boozy. I liked it a lot. After that I asked if they could serve me something off the menu, a corpse reviver nº2, and they promptly prepared a pretty good one. This is not my favorite cocktail bar in Antwerp, but it´s a close second. :)

Sips offers some serious cocktails. Located in the Het Zuid neighborhood, it is one of the top bars in Antwerp. It’s hard to fully describe the«scene» at Sips. There is just way too much going on for such a small cocktail bar. The people: high fashion/scantily clad women, random couples making out in the corner, men in suits – you get the idea. The cocktails, however, were amazing. And strong. They really had a great selection not to mention some internationally-inspired drinks. There was even a Canadian inspired cocktail with ice-wine from Niagara!!! Didn’t expect to find that in Antwerp! You could also smoke inside – so between the haze, darkness, and a few well-crafted cocktails, you cay really say that«what happens at Sips, stays at Sips.»

Really THE best cocktail bar in Antwerp ! I don’t bother to check the cocktailmenu, as it will take ages(it’s a serious book) and you really don’t know what to take at the end. Just tell them what tastes you like and what you feel like, they’ll fix it for you with an explanation which already makes you go water teething ;-) Almost all ingredients are fresh, no chemical syruptaste, fresh fruit is prepared in front of you… From fresh pineapple(which they cut at the very moment) to raspberries, srawberries, cinnamon sticks(instead of powder) etc… The setting is cosy as well. There is a bar(I prefer to sit there and enjoy ‘the making of’), and a few high tables but the regular tables and chairs are less cocktailproof to me when combining the perfect setting for a cocktail… As a non smoker however, I’ll add a note for the smokers: there is a smoking room so you don’t have to freeze your a** off for a smelly stick. The location is great as well, near the ‘gedempte zuiderdokken’, so you can park for free as well. My yesterday’s tip: ‘lazy red cheeks’(raspberries, lime juice, grey goose yummie wodka and violette)

If you are serious about your cocktails, this is a serious cocktail bar for you. Almost a utilitarian setting of this small-ish place — chairs, tables, no distractions — draw all of your senses towards enjoying the perfection that is a Sips cocktail. Yes, the cocktail book(huge menue) is overly long and complicated, yes you will wait a long time for service, and yes, it is pricy. But when the creation arrives in front of you, all will be forgotten and forgiven. I skipped the book and asked the server for a recommendation, and was very impressed with her expert knowledge — this person knows their cocktails. Imagine a perfect balance of basil, cucumber and spring in a cocktail glass. Complex, surprising, interesting, with just the right hint of both sourness and sweetness, joy at seeing the fresh spring flowers and apprehension of the persistent rains… It is a poem in a cocktail glass, perfect in each and every way. Or the bold and fierce combination of strawberry and red chilly. It was tango — controlled passion, threatening to boil over with each sip yet gracefully and precisely hitting all the right notes, until the glass was drained. This place is an experience, one not soon to be forgotten.

An ok cocktailbar but overrated & too expensive. This is a m’as tu vue place. I prefer josephines for cocktails as expensive & also a m’as tu vue place but they have original cocktails.
