Schloss Leopoldskron, Salzburg Global Seminar

We stayed in a Mountain View, Water View Suite. Wow! Buffet breakfast was excellent. Grounds are gorgeous, staff very friendly. Excellent value and we WILL be back. Felt like royalty from beginning to end!

This place is home to me. The food is amazing. The rooms are amazing. The views, landscapes, the everything! The best things in life are simple. This place is simply the best! #GCP67

The most incredible experience of my life. Seriously a once-​in-​a-​lifetime experience that is absolutely unforgettable.
I was incredibly blessed enough to be able to spend 8 or 9 days here, all expenses paid courtesy of my college. I was sent here along with a few other classmates for the Global Citizenship Program. I learned so much and experienced so much beauty — sometimes I still think it was a dream. But it was real, and boy, do I wish I could go back.
Let’s start with the palace. What an extraordinary, captivating, and historical palace. I was here in February and arrived the day after a big snowstorm, so everything was covered in glistening, clean, white snow! The palace is covered in beautiful, gold details. The lake in the back (what a beautiful lake) was frozen and the swans paddled around in the small parts that weren’t frozen. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and there are gorgeous statues all around. The first two days I was there, the days were very cloudy. But on day three, the sun came out, and — WOW — there’s a huge, beautiful mountain, Untersberg, right behind the palace! I had never felt this sensation but… it literally took my breath away. The beauty was overwhelming — I even shed a tear. It made for the most perfect view out of my room, out of the lecture rooms, dining rooms, any room! The palace got even more gorgeous and it couldn’t have been any more perfect.
The food was fantastic. I’m a very picky eater and I was very, very afraid of my first experience eating in Europe. But to my surprise, the food was extraordinary. There were so many meals and all of them had an incredible variety of food, so that everyone could find something they liked (loved). Between meals, snacks, fruits, tea, and coffee came out. It was so lovely.
As for the lectures — it was an honor to be learning from some of the most esteemed educators from around the world. Their level of intelligence and insight was beyond belief. They were all so approachable and truly made an effort to get to know us all. Absolutely incredible.
The staff was just awesome! Such nice and fun people. The hotel staff were also great — very attentive and helpful.
Best experience ever. I’m so glad that I took a leap of faith and went on this journey. It was one I’ll never forget — and if you go, I guarantee you won’t either.

Über das Schloß an sich kann ich jetzt wenig bis nichts sagen, da ich noch nie drinnen war. Da es relativ weit vom Bahnhof liegt bin ich wenig geneigt, dort eine Übernachtung buchen und für die Events, die dort regelmäßig angeboten werden, gehöre ich sicher nicht zur Zielgruppe. Aber es schaut sehr schön aus von außen und ist sicher auch drinnen ein Erlebnis. Wer weiß, vielleicht komme ich doch eines Tages mal rein, immerhin hat Aschenputtel auch einen Prinzen geheiratet, obwohl es natürlich ein rechter Blödsinn ist gleich zu heiraten, nur weil man mal hinten auf einem Pferd mitreiten möchte.
Hier würde ich jetzt aber gerne was über den wunderschönen Weiher daneben schreiben, da ich dort immer wieder vorbeikomme. Am Rand sitzen oft Angler, hinten ist ein Spielplatz wo ich mich immer auf die Schaukel setze weil in Österreich darf man das ja (warum Erwachsene in Deutschland nicht auf Spielplätze dürfen wird mir ein ewiges Rätsel bleiben!!!), um die Ecke ist ein Billa wo man sich was zu Essen und Trinken kaufen kann und sich damit auf eine der vielen Bänke setzen und den Enten zuschauen. Nicht füttern, eh klar, darf man ja heutzutage auch nicht mehr, aber gucken darf man. Und Fotos machen. Und sich ausruhen von der langen Wanderung.
Wer kein Auto hat muß hier nämlich zu Fuß hergehen, ich geh meist auf dem Hinweg unter dem Mönchsberg durch, dann beim Chinarestaurant nach links am Rainberg vorbei, über die Straße und dann links in den Wolfgang-​Schaffler-​Weg. Hier kann man auf der linken Seite Flamingos, Schafe und Ziegen sehen und rechts befindet sich der Auslauf eines Bauernhofs mit einer Bank davor, hier sieht man Hühner, Hähne, Ziegen, Kühe und nicht zu vergessen die Schweinderln die sich immer freuen, wenn man ihnen was Eßbares in den Trog wirft.
Nachdem man den Leopoldskroner Weiher umrundet hat, kann man entweder direkt auf den ‘Rentnerhimalaya’ rauf und auf der anderen Seite wieder runter oder man schaut beim Militärfriedhof vorbei und wandert dann am Altenheim entlang wieder in die Stadt zurück. Beides sehr schöné Routen die auf Schritt und Tritt herrliche Fotomotive bieten, also vorher Akku aufladen nicht vergessen!

Surprised that no one has reviewed this place yet. Okay, so I guess I’ll start. First of all, if you stay here, either for pleasure or for an education seminar, be prepared for a once in a lifetime experience.
If you’re going for a seminar, you will attend lectures by esteemed educators in their perspective fields. These educators have taught in some of the best schools all over the world, but it wasn’t their impressive resumes that made it extraordinary. No, it was about the subjects they spoke about. Incredible stuff.
For the non-​student, paying guests are most certainly welcome. When I was there, there was a small German insurance seminar taking place.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in what used to be a castle. The film «The Sound of Music» was filmed adjacent to the grounds of the Schloss Leopoldskron. Famous theater director Max Reinhardt owned the place, but while he was in Hollywood, the Nazis confiscated the palace because it was «Jewish property». After WWII the palace was returned to Reinhardt’s family.
Currently the palace is owned by the Salzburg Global Seminar. If you’re a student, and you win a scholarship to attend one of the seminars, consider yourself blessed.
The food itself is delish. No joke, it’s really that good. Plus you can most definitely taste the difference between American over-​processed food vs. natural well made Austrian fare. In addition, you have a choice between free red or white wine during dinner. May I suggest the most awesome apple juice?
As for the hotel staff, they are very hospitable, as they speak both German and English. If you need postcard mailed, a cab called, or a wake-​up call, they will do it with no questions asked.
As for one of the best parts… the Beer Steuben. Otherwise known as beer drinking paradise for alcohol indulging students. There’s always a steady supply of Stiegl beer. If you hate loud drunk students, then DO NOT come to the Schloss Leopoldskron during the Salzburg Global Seminar, which happens during spring break. You have been warned.
Oh, and if you are a future ISP seminar student, keep in mind that the place goes by the honor system. In other words, you pay at the end of your stay as opposed to per drink. Just remember to be honest when paying your tab.
I shall end this review by commenting on the wonderful view of the Austrian mountains which could be seen outside the windows. Beautiful view indeed.

Im Seitengebäude des Schloss Leopoldskron befinden sich die Zimmer zum Übernachten. Die Suiten sind wohl direkt im Schloss.
Ich bin etwas hin-​und hergerissen bei der Bewertung. Das Ambiente im Schloss, in dem man auch frühstückt, ist wirklich einmalig. Der Blick auf den See und auf die Festung Salzburg suchen seinesgleichen. Das Servicepersonal war jederzeit freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Zimmer ja die Zimmer sind leider ein kleiner Negativpunkt. Relativ alt, klein und ziemlich abgewohnt. Aufgrund der trotzallem vielen positiven Aspekte des Hotels würde ich es wieder wählen und kann es auch weiterempfhelen.

jeden Tag darf ich in der Früh dieses Schloss aufs neue bewundern, denn ich wohne in leopoldskron.
2x war ich bis jetzt dort, einmal privat zu Besuch und vergangenen Sommer fand im Schloss die Hochzeit meines Onkels statt. Das Schloss ist unglaublich schön, der Ausblick auf den Leopoldskroner Weiher und den Untersberg ein Traum. Den Tag, an dem man hineindarf, den sollte man wirklich nutzen!!! Nur zu empfehlen!
