History

Established in 2007.

Donna opened Canine Cubby — Activity Centre for Dogs, after working as an aged care nurse and paramedic for 12 years, during this time Donna noticed the benefits of hydrotherapy and natural therapies with the people she cared for and treated.

As a boxer breeder Donna has found not only does hydrotherapy and alternative therapies help humans she found a remarkable benefit to dogs. Unable to find a centre close to home Donna realised that the Yatala/​Ormeau and surrounding areas indeed needed a centre like Canine Cubby.

As a young girl I always had a special connection with animals but loved dogs, My dad rescued a boxer from being beaten by her previous owner. This was the first time I had a dog that I called my own, Lady was just so loving and I found this special connection with boxers. I decided after losing her to cancer, I would breed these beautiful canines, I started showing them and the had my first litter in 1990. I then started looking into why my best friend died of cancer and looked at ways to prevent this from happening. I explored natural therapies whilst I was a age care nurse and paramedic, I then started transporting clients to hydrotherapy for injuries and saw how it was helping them. My old boy Leroy tore his ACL and I was unable to find a pool in where I could swim him, this is when I decided to open Canine Cubby. I love to see the difference I make in the canines lives, it is very rewarding.
