Beachcomber reminds of an era past, with polished wooden window frames, on windows that roll open on a hot summer evening to let the bay breeze in to cool the occupants of smilarly polished wooden booths lining the walls. It’s a fish and chip shop with a café on the side really, but if you eat in, there are big salad platters that come with the seafood, and if you buy a big bottle of drink, you’ll get glasses to share it around. I like it. Beachcomber gets busy as the prices are right and the fish and seafood is crispy and fresh. There are items on the menu that have disappeared from may other places, like banana and pineapple fritters and slices of cheescake Unpretentious fish and chips on a plate, or if you’d have it wrapped to go, you can wander across the road to the Wynnum Esplanade and watch the dogs and their people pass by.
