In 1962, after a lifelong family association with fruit, veges and deli’s around Brisbane, Perry Panos opened Perry’s Fruit Market in Wynnum. Today, Perry’s is still a household name and hugely popular with the locals. I admit I don’t go there everytime I need something as I’m a bit of an opportunistic shopper, but every couple of weeks I specifically head there for a couple of boxes of goods. There are some things I just know: the tomatoes and apples will be good and cheap, the avo’s will be close to ripe, the fresh herbs are big and lush and I can pull right up to the door. The staff carry the boxes to the cars for anyone who wants or needs that and I just talked myself into going there more often.
