ABSOLUTERUBBISH&RIPOFF. The worst experience I’ve had of a restaurant for a very long time. The service was rubbish with the waitress firstly getting my order wrong. I didn’t appreciate having my food«thrown» onto the table without a word of acknowledgement. As for the food, the garlic bread was burnt and the bread was so tough to eat it tasted like week old bread. The pizza was advertised to have fresh basil but came with a light sprinkle of dried herbs and tasted like leather. If you don’t care about what you get for your $ 50 meal then go to Vespa. If you have the slightest bit of dignity as a diner, stay clear of this crap place that’s riding on its once good reputation. If I could give it zero stars, I would. ABSOLUTERUBBISH

A++ They went an extra mile for us(quite literally, seeing as they had to drive so far to deliver the pizza). Very pleasant and helpful and the pizza was DELICIOUS. Thanks guys!

These guys are absolute heroes! We ordered a couple of pizzas for our colleagues in Brisbane(and we’re based in London) as a little surprise and not only did they rise up the the challenge but they also went that extra mile, literally, as it was quite a drive! Big thanks for the Vespa Pizza team, you guys rock!

I cannot say enough positive words about this place. Not only in the pizza delicious and well made, but their staff go above and beyond what you would expect for a restaurant. After placing an order from abroad, the guys at Vespa Pizza actually worked with us to make sure the pizzas were to our(crazy) specifications and drove out of their way to make sure it was delivered on time to a place outside their regular services. Honestly the best customer service I have seen in years. I highly recommend these guys.

I wish I had tried this place sooner, I have driven past this place on Stanley Street East more times then I can count. One of those places you look at and always think ‘it looks cool, we should check it out’. We did and you should! The first time we had Vespa was via delivery, best priced and best tasting pizza ever. Then we went into the place and had an awesome time, not many seats but an epic atmosphere that is chilled and staff that are happy to make your time there fun. Be sure to walk out the back and on the way check out the massive pizza oven!

This is pizza with character. If you go here you will not only love the tastefully directed interior but also the ambiance it is embroiled in. This matched the pizza with chicken and artichoke with a beautiful tasting mozzarella.

You won’t often find me griping about my hometown, but even my most Brisbane-philiac friends have compained at times that it can be difficult to get a decent meal after 10pm here. The bus network may have jumped the gun in naming us «Australia’s new world city» — I think we might need to improve our late night dining options before assuming that moniker… Which brings me to Vespa Pizza. It was a muggy Friday night and a friend and I had just done a hard session of rock climbing together and were looking for some well-earned post workout sustenance. It was about 9.30pm by the time we rocked up to Woolloongabba with the original intention of trying out Goa-doodle-do, but it was closed. Then we thought we’d go for Korean food at nearby Hankook, but it was also closed. We were pretty starving by now but didn’t want to drive anywhere else, determined to find somewhere in the ‘Gabba. We thought we’d found our meal-ticket when we were seated at a Sri Lankan curry place. We’d decided on our order and were drooling in anticipation of a well-earned delicious feast… BUT, fate intervened and the restaurant’s lone waitress had a, shall we say industrial dispute(a rather audible one), with her employers and stormed out of the place! It seemed that we were destined to go hungry. But what’s this? An invitingly cosy pizza joint with handsome rough brick walls, content staff and the promise of wood-fired gourmet creations AND it’s open until 11pm. WEHAVE A WINNER! We ordered three pizzas to share(there were three of us) — the ‘sesame chicken w/mango chutney & organic yoghurt’, the ‘little fishy: anchovies, capers, tomato, mozzarella, fresh basil’ and the ‘cinnamon roast butternut pumpkin w/dried chilli, sage and fetta’. My climbing buddy quickly popped down the road and picked up a bottle of Cabernet-Merlot — the perfect accompaniment to Italian food. While I’ve had mixed experiences with chicken pizzas I was a real fan of Vespa’s creation: the sweet mango chutney made a delicious foundation, the chicken thigh strips were succulent and the yoghurt topped things nicely. The ‘little fishy’ was my second favourite, with the zest of the capers and salty anchovies cutting into the creamy mozzarella. I don’t think the pumpking pizza quite hit the mark though. It was a little dry by virtue of its lack of mozzarella and I think the pumpkin could have benefited from being candified in the roasting process. But overall it was a very satisfying meal; we even had leftover slices which we took home in provided takeaway boxes. The staff were very nice, allowing us to dally until five minutes after closing and offering us complimentary Skittles from the bowl at the counter. On the way out to the carpark the kitchen staff even gave us a look at the day old coals in their woodfired oven. Speaking of hot things, I’m pretty tempted to go back and try the ‘possible side effects: chilli paste, hot salami & roasted peppers w/parmesan & chilli flakes’.

Like Garfield and Lasagne, me and pizza have had a very long love affair. …In fact all adulthood has done is to refine my palate AWAY from three cheese domino and towards a more authentic pizza experience. And none more authentic than Vespa Pizza. I definitely recommend the addictive and tasty Polenta bites (with rosemary and garlic aioli.) and the kipfler potatoes to start. And as for the pizza, I really can’t go past the capricciosa(salami, olives, mozzarella mushrooms, anchovies, red peppers) or the yummy little fishy (anchovies, capers, tomato, mozzarella, and fresh basil) The menu is enough to start the drooling and has everything to satisfy even the fussiest member of your group. This place does get a bit hectic on the weekends, but it is great for groups and is well worth the wait.
