The Department

Is it for real? Is New York design finally attainable on the south side of the Yarra? Why, yes it is my friend but it’s freekin expensive.
Now, some of you may have a bone to pick with The Department because the store resides where the popular Absolutely Fabulous Cakes was once located. For those who can forgive and forget, this store is a fantastic place for those serious about interior design and quite sick of mass-​produced items.
The store stocks a very soft palate of colours, merging practical and industrial design to produce some especially unique pieces. For example, they stock a table assembled from a red-​painted tin barrel, topped with a clear glass plate. It would look tremendous in any kitchen or living space, or for any giant in need of a bedside table.
They also offer some pricey but pretty retro pieces, like an eye-​catching light box priced at $ 950, or a beautifully restored cabinet at a price too expensive to list.
