Needed somewhere to park and have our fish n chips, so we headed down the road towards the boat ramp. There are two BBQ areas with two large tables under each of the covered areas. We didn’t need venture too far down the road so not sure how many more BBQs there are. There is a nice little playground for the under 5s.

Governor Phillip Park is on the east(right) side of Windsor Road as you are about to cross the Hawkesbury River on Windsor Bridge; go right on George Street. Governor Arthur Phillip was the first Governor of the colony of New South Wales from 1788 to 1795. He had the foresight to request that some skilled tradesmen be part of the First Fleet from England, but was overruled. He is regarded as making a decent effort to make something of the colony under adverse circumstances and lacking skilled free persons. In some notable instances, the skilled persons among the convicts turned out to be the source of quality labour. He died back in England in 1814, which was just four years after the town of Windsor was founded. This is a nice historic park on the river bank. An excursion boat leaves from the jetty and there is a boat ramp to launch from. There is a picnic area with tables and shelters and electric BBQ’s, and a children’s playground. Handicapped access. There are some big colonial houses at the top of the hill.
Windsor Bridge is the finish line of the iconic Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic in early December each year. The race is a huge event and the 112 km course along the Hawkesbury from Dangar Island in Broken bay to here is one of the longest water ski races in the world. The December 1st&2nd, 2013 weekend will be the 51st running. Governor Phillip Park is the heart the festivities. They set up exhibit and food stand and the usual stuff. This year entry is $ 15 per day, 2 day Adult passes at $ 25.00 or a Family Pass at $ 35, Pensioners at $ 5 per day and Children under 12 free. You better get there early as the whole riverfront gets packed with people. Governor Phillip Park is also the headquarters of the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic from Windsor to Brooklyn, on Broken Bay. The canoes launch from the beach of Macquarie Park, just across the river. About 600 canoers travel 111 km in moonlight, starting at 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
