This bakery makes some of the best fruit pies — in apple or cherry — you’ll ever find. These big, fruity family pies are fantastic eaten with custard, cream or ice cream. The Portuguese custard tarts have cinnamon in them and are dead set world beaters. Other bakery products here are good but not fantastic, and the pies and pasties are sometimes sold burnt or dried out. I had probably their first coffee of the day. Metallic and barely drinkable — a matter of better machine management. However the fruit tarts make up for most of this. PS Note on the size of fruit pies/tarts in the picture: Sorry I didn’t put anything in the pic for reference. They are genuinely big items, about 30 cm across and 4−5cm deep. They weigh quite a bit. Pane Fresco is a small bakery which specialises in wood oven pizzas, fresh bread, continental cakes and they even make coffee. There are a few tables allocated for you to be able to sit down in the store and enjoy a hot cup of a coffee and a piece of cake, or a fresh slice of pizza. I usually buy bread here once a week, and it’s always fresh. Soft and crunchy. What else do you need in a loaf of bread? They also make stellar wood oven pizzas that I would recommend trying as soon as possible. The staff are super friendly and know me well by now. It’s a good thing walking into a store and being recognised!
