One of the most popular places in the West Lakes centre, this café does an amazing range of cakes at great prices. As you line up for the register you can select plates of pre-cut cake, or ask for something in the upper shelf if there is none below. All cakes and sweets are $ 4.90 a piece, and given the size of the slabs, this is great value. They do a particularly good banana caramel pie, with excessive amounts of cream. Also, don’t tackle the mud cake without a friend or a backup plan, because you won’t get through it. They do all manner of coffees, and have two serious machines going at all times. Their coffee knocks you around, but it’s nice to have something strong in the Adelaide world of mild coffee. Their sandwich bar is another highlight of the store, and they offer a list of standard types of wraps and focaccias, or you can request your own special combination. Prices are from $ 5-$ 7, which again is fantastic. The line can look daunting, especially when shops around are quiet, but it doesn’t take long to get through as they always have plenty of staff, who seem to be uniformly Italian and beautifully manicured. I always feel like a frump, going through with my brick of cake, but eh, I’m soon too busy devouring it to care.
