So I moved from Clayfield to West End and left behind an award winning butcher and fruit shop. I was bereft. The weekend markets just shunt off old supermarket stock, and the local butcher… well, I was better off with the supermarket. Cruising along Montague I stumbled The Stores. There’s a bar/restaurant at the entrance, and once inside you’re greeted with a deli, fruit shop, butcher, dedicated cheese room, an organic whole foods store, and soon there will be a bakery too. I have to say it plainly. All the fruit and vege I’ve had has been sensational. If it’s local, it will tell you where it’s from. The butchers are Schulte’s in the Lockyer Valley(yay, award winning butcher!) Basically, if you’re near West End and you’re after fruit, veg and meat, The Stores is for you.

I am a fan of any grocery store with limited options of uncompromising quality. I’ve shopped here about six times so far, and the service is always friendly, too. A bakery is on the way, though I’ve also been missing the option for buying fish that I enjoyed from the Fresh Fish Co. that I used to go to in the back of James St. Market. The dry-aged beef is a welcome addition, though. There’s one exception I’ve found to the quality in front: the olive oils from the independent bulk store in the back are much better.

TL; DR? SMUGTROLLEY. If you’re out to impress or like to humblebrag on insty about the contents of your shopping basking, West End’s newest grocer, The Stores, is just the place to do it. You’ll probably earn at least 50 bonus likes for the fact that it is brand spanking new. In all seriousness, The Stores is a welcome addition to what will soon be a bustling end of West End and offers locals an inviting space to stock up on cured meats, hand selected cheeses in Queensland’s first dedicated cheese room, general produce and even bulk seed, nuts and all that jazz from the adjoining Bulk Source Food. So what are you waiting for? Set yourself a budget, leave the cards at home and fill up that smug trolley(or basket!).

A great place to do the weekly shop. I’ve found basically everything I need here at the Schulte family supermarket. A great selection of meats and cheeses, not to mention some other delicious deli delights(olives, baby octopus, marinated vegetables, cold cuts etc.) and some quality dips, yoghurts and oils. A huge, fresh section of fruit and vegetables, including a Cold Room. There’s a wall filled with pantry essentials, other treats and I hear that there’ll be fish coming soon. There’s a bakery that’s yet to be completed, but there’s fresh loaves of bread available at the door that are from Jocelyn’s Provisions. Adding to this, there’s a store connected at the back called The Source that has nuts, seeds, grains, flours, superfoods, organic washing/cleaning products to mention only a small part of this section. There’s a lot to be overwhelmed by and they have a VIP program which I would recommend getting on. The staff are also very friendly and always ask how you are/how your day is going. A very warm atmosphere that has me convinced me to swap my shopping to The Stores.

Fabulous place in trendy West End. Part butcher, part grocer, part Fromagerie this new venue is a feast to your senses! The Schulte family runs it and with that you’re guaranteed amazing meats & small goods. The place also features a walk-in Fromagerie with a brilliant selection of imported and local cheeses. I’m of course biased t wards the Swiss raw milk cheese available there but there are many other brilliant options from local goats milk cheese to English cloth bound cheddar. There’s also a The Source store as part of the concept and a bakery is also on the map.
