This is a lovely little bar that has a great looking list of whiskeys and some interesting and delicious cocktails! They often have great musicians playing in the background playing some lovely chilled out tunes. The bar staff are some of the most friendly I’ve come across. Very happy to have a chat and recommend some nice drinks. They really knew their stuff too! I’m not a big whiskey drinker but I wanted to try it out and they recommended me a great starter which I loved and still drink to this day! The actual space is lovely and has a very mellow, relaxed atmosphere. Candles, low lighting, murmured discussions, nice couches upstairs, it’s a great place to go for a relaxed night out where you can still talk with your friends easily.

I really love the fit-out and feel of this whisky bar in West End. Last night a girlfriend and I were encouraged to sit at the bar by a very young and overly exuberant bar tender. His passion for the job was a little over the top(reminded me of a bar tender at Lark many years ago who acted just a little too Tom Cruise«Cocktail» for my liking). Nevertheless, the drinks were good and I liked that he tailored the cocktails to our liking and penchants. I think once this young pup calms down a bit and develops a little more suave he will be just as smooth as the drinks Cobbler serves.

My lady friends and I decided to check out Cobbler when I saw the Ladies Saturday promo they were running. When we walked in, it wasn’t too crowded yet but the ambience was already mysterious with dim lighting. I tried to order my drink at the bar but wasn’t served immediately. When I asked the bartender for some advice, I was a bit surprised how unhelpful he was. I perused the entire menu and decided on The D is Silent because it had nashi(asian pear) and chili. It wasn’t spicy at all for me. I would have enjoyed a bigger kick but I did like the nashi that came with it so I will say it ended up being a 3.5 out of 5 for my cocktail. The other ladies really liked their cocktails so I will have to try another one next time. The bartender who served me did apologize and say he wasn’t ignoring me. They brought out our cheese plater and it had some camembert, granny smith apple slices, grapes, and some crackers. Yum! We were having great conversation when another customer stumbled and ran into my friend’s chair due to being a bit intoxicated and depressed. A bartender took out his phone and called a taxi while escorting the customer out. Crisis diverted. As the night went on, the bar started filling up quickly and we decided to move on to our next spot! They were easy with splitting up the bill as well! I really liked that. Super fun cocktail names and tons of whiskey to try. I was happy to see Tennessee represented and next time, I might get one that makes me feel a little closer to home.

Currently writing this review in the cab home from Cobbler because it was just so fantastic I can’t possibly wait to get to a computer to tell every person about it. Wow, isn’t this a downright classy watering hole. We arrived at about 8:30 and took a seat at the bar. Greeted by the lovely bartenders who straight away started taking our orders. I’m always happy to let the bartender decide for me, they are the experts after all. He asked all the right questions. Did I want something heavy or light? What spirits did I like? Did I like mint? Well of course I like mint kind sir. And I had the most delicious cocktail of my life in front of me within minutes. He was happy to describe the flavours to me and why he likes it and that is the mark of an exceptional bartender. I think between the three of us we would have sampled at least half the menu. Everything was delicious, perfectly balanced, perfectly served. A few of the drinks have a few unusual flavours(I had a particularly smoky drink that I adored) and some more common tried and true combinations. Half the fun is choosing the cocktail based on the name. Try out ‘its not suicide if you’re already dead’ or ‘royale and cheese’ or the bottled delight ‘mr pink’ or my personal favourite ‘I’m sorry, but did I break your concentration?’ Why, yes cobbler. Yes you did! Pretty much all of our drinks were made by Elliot who is now my favourite bartender in Brisbane and possibly the world. He is a total sweetheart and makes a bloody mean drink to boot. In case my gushing didn’t indicate, I heart this gentleman a lot. And even if the drinks were terrible which they absolutely are not, I could probably still forgive them on the merit of his impeccable service. Many thanks Cobbler. We’ll be back next weekend.

Across the road from the Melbourne Hotel, this is a bar with ambience, style and a wicked menu of booze choices, with whiskey their specialty. I shall return!

Cobbler is a new comer to the bar scene in West End. A gorgeously appointed space, lit with candles and Edison globes, the sweet sounds of French Chill and Trip Hop greet you, and welcome you in. The ground floor gives way to a grand timber bar, and an impressive wall of over 175 whiskeys, with barmen greeting punters and mixing some stunning cocktails, under the gaze of the vintage penny farthing adorning the bare brick walls. Cobbler has become my favourite midweek haunt for a quick cocktail(or three) with friends, and it just does not disappoint. The staff are gifted when it comes to their craft, and are gracious in recommending a new drink, or trying a different mix of an old favourite. It’s a strictly BYO Food affair, but it only adds to the charm of the space. There’s an upstairs lounge with recliners, and a internal deck that overlooks the space below. With drinks named like ‘The men of the night’s watch’, and the ‘Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster’ it’s clear Cobbler doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it leaves it up to its drinks to speak for it. Parking is a challenge, but hey, welcome to West End. If you’re up for a quiet drink, or a fancy yourself a whiskey enthusiast, I challenge you to find a more enjoyable place to sip, contemplate the world, or just people watch.
