Each year students at The Nutcracker School of Ballet participate in our end of year performance held at Waverley College Performing Arts Centre. This year The Nutcracker School of Ballet will be proud to present ‘Swan Lake’. Our students are already dreaming of ‘white tutus and feathers’! Saturday morning ballet classes, special classes for pre-school children from three years to teenagers.
All students enrolled in the school will participate in ‘Swan Lake’ and all dancers from three years old will have the opportunity to be a ‘real swan’ and dress in a traditional white classical tutu! Our term II classes will be held on stage at the Waverley College Performing Arts Centre so students are lucky to have the opportunity to rehearse in the venue at which they will be performing.
We are currently enrolling students from 3 years of age. We would love to hear from you if your child would like to learn ballet and dance in our performance of ‘Swan Lake’.
History
Established in 1988.
Welcome to The Nutcracker School of Ballet.
The Nutcracker School of Ballet was established in 1988 in the Cherrybrook area and ran successfully for several years. The school relocated to the Eastern Suburbs in 1999.
The Nutcracker School of Ballet is a unique organization. We have expertise in teaching very young children (from 3 years of age) as well as giving teenagers (including those who have not previously learnt ballet) the opportunity to spend a few hours a week away from the increasing pressures of school life.
Unlike many ballet schools who expect all students to undertake exams in order to progress to the next level or to attend many classes a week before they are given a major role in the annual concert, students at The Nutcracker School of Ballet attend one class each week and come to classes for pure enjoyment. There are no exams — rather students spend some time in each class working towards our End of Year Performance.

The principal teacher of The Nutcracker School of Ballet is Vicki Grey. Miss Vicki has been trained in Classical Ballet (RAD and Cecchetti), Highland Dancing, and Character Dancing. In 1976 — 1977, Miss Vicki danced several of the children’s roles in The Athens Ballet Theatre’s productions of George Balanchine’s «The Nutcracker», performed in conjunction with The Atlanta Ballet Company. The Atlanta Ballet Company was one of the few companies in the world (apart from The New York City Ballet) that had the rights to perform this version of the ballet. Miss Vicki was fortunate to take class with Mr Bobby Barnett at The Atlanta Ballet Company during rehearsals for The Nutcracker. Mr Barnett danced the role of the «Candy Cane» in the original Balanchine production of «The Nutcracker».
In 1987, Miss Vicki was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts, School of Dance. Her many teachers at the college included former Australian Ballet Company dancers, Mr Garth Welch, Mr Gary Norma
