Wahroonga Village is teeming with food(and coffee!) options, but somehow you still need an IGA. Even now you can buy milk at the Bakers Delight, or Ben & Jerry’s at Tongue Teasers, IGA is there for all the other bits and pieces you would need if you’d decided to — shock, horror — cook! The Independent Growers Alliance is an American concept, exported to Australia in the late 1980s. For all my school years, Wahroonga IGA was ‘Riteway’ — a name you’ll still hear locals use, even if it was rebranded years ago. You wouldn’t want to do your weekly shop here. Prices are a bit steeper than a Coles or Woolies, but the range is good enough that you can safely duck in and pick up whatever you’ve forgotten to buy at Coles(which is my M. O).
