99% of my library borrows these days are for graphic novels, and Carlton library has a great little selection of them. I’ve seen much bigger GN sections in libraries, but the quality of books here is what keeps me coming back.
The library is only open past 6:00 twice a week (Monday and Tuesday) which is a bit annoying, but it’s open both days on the weekend which makes up for that a little.
The staff here are quite friendly and twice now while I’ve been browsing the comics I’ve had someone come over and tell me they had some for sale on their clearance racks in the front room. Make sure you swing by there, it’s in the right as you walk in the door and books are cheap!
Oh, and get yourself the app called BookMyne. With it you can search for, reserve and reborrow to your hearts content and you’ll get a notice when you’ve got something waiting for you. Not all libraries are linked into this system, but Carlton is.

In this day and age of technology where we are starting to read everything online and download our books, it’s sometimes nice to lose yourself in a library and appreciate that old book smell.
Feeling stressed? Need to forget the outside world? You can do it at Carlton Library. Snuggle in to one of the comfy couches in the window with a good book/​magazine/​newspaper and let the hours drain away.
I recommend it when you are hungover.

The modern library building stands out in otherwise traditional Rathdowne Village. Like most local libraries, it seems to be jam packed with children having sing-​a-​longs whenever you need to do quiet study, but if you’re just there for a casual browse at fiction it is deadly quiet.
The range of fiction is okay, with a particular emphasis on Australian authors. The local history section is the only non-​fiction section I ever use, and I rate it for a small library, although if you want access to archived newspapers or other historic documents you’re better off heading into the State Library of Victoria.
If it’s current newspapers you’re after, the Carlton Library gets a decent amount of Chinese and European language news — it’s definitely the most popular section in the mornings, but it’s a pity the readers can’t bring their coffees in!

The Carlton library has it going on. It’s nice and new, with plenty of natural light which means you don’t get so tired when you’re either reading or doing homework. There’s lots of computers and plenty of tables to do study, it would be a great place to get that assignment done if you live in the area and need some peace and quiet to focus.
They have a wonderful reading spot, right near the windows too which is great if you just wanted to relax and watch people go past as you go browse and read.
The children’s section is rather large, and well thought out as it is away from the main areas of the library in case the kids start to get restless and shouty.
Wheelchair-​accessible, Carlton Library is well laid out and really encourages you to stay and get reading.
