I think of Bubble Sushi Boy as my very own personal sushi super hero. He comes saves me when I am hungry, tired and grumpy from too much shopping amidst the many crappy $ 2 shops of Northcote Shopping Plaza. You see I have this character flaw where I cannot shop for more than an hour without getting grumpy and if I get hunrgy, well don’t get me started, but suffice to say you will see a three year throw more appealing tantrums. Bubble Sushi Boy, knows these things about me and accepts me for who I am. He is always ready with some of the freshest sushi in town, and a delectable selection of flavours that is enough to make me salivate all over the floor. Sometimes I feel sure that he makes some extra rolls of crispy calamari just for me, because he knows it is my favourite. And I have a sneaking suspicion that he gets his fish in fresh when he knows I am coming, so I can enjoy his salmon or tuna rolls without fear of getting sick afterwards. Bubble Boy Sushi is a shining light amongst a lot of greasy, dim and insipid take-away shops. He sets the example for the whole town, and makes all shoppers at Northcote Plaza realise that their $ 2 is far better spent on Bubble Sushi Boy than at any junk store anywhere anytime.

Shopping at Northcote Plaza and looking for a quick bite? If so then Bubble Boy Sushi is a great place to head amidst greasy looking takeaway options and dowdy looking cafes. Rock up to the front facing sushi hand roll counter and choose your poison. Me? I go for Cooked Tuna Hand rolls every time. The side counter has sushi combo’s and other fresh looking bites, however for me its all about the tuna rolls. The tuna sushi was fresh and the tuna mixed in mayonnaise neighboured by avocado created a great ingredients ratio. $ 2.40 a piece, bargain! The rolls were accompanied by soy sauce and made the perfect solution to my lunch time hunger. The small cubes and tables don’t encourage you to linger, but for a quick bite what more could you want?

Sweetly monikered little sushi bar, Bubble Boy Sushi may be domiciled within the somewhat aesthetically challenged Northcote Plaza but don’t let that put you off. This place sells invariably good quality sushi for very competitive prices and its staff are as sweet as they come. Bubble Boy’s crispy chicken sushi is particularly good, being stuffed full of tender chicken strips, luxuriantly creamy mayonnaise and fresh, fresh lettuce. And the price? A very reasonable $ 2.50 a pop. Probably better for takeaways than eating in due to both the diminutive size of the place and the aforementioned less than beautiful location, Bubble Boy is a total no-brainer for awesomely cheap sushi in Northcote.
