By rights, this quaint coffee/book shop does not belong in a suburban shopping centre in Upper Mount Gravatt. It should be nestled amongst the shops in West End or Paddington where it can be visited by obscure artists, philosophers, maybe even hosts its own resident brooding poet. Too bad! This is my local book café where I go to chill out with a book tucked under one arm and a coffee and cake at my disposal. I prefer bringing my own book although they have a wide range of second hand options to browse, read and purchase. But wait– there’s more. You can also sell or exchange your second hand books back to the café. You can’t get much better deal than that — unless of course you try their $ 8 cake of the day and coffee/tea. The Book Café is on the top level of Garden City Shopping Centre. Follow the aroma of their buttery raisin toast. Delicious!
