The Kingfisher Café Restaurant has a wide menu with a separate breakfast and lunch options. There are daily specials, sandwiches, children’s meals, seafood platters, pasta, salads and huge meals with onion rings. I was disappointed to discover that it’s not gluten free friendly. The lamb cutlets I wanted were pre-battered and nearly everything else besides gluten-free sandwiches(no thanks) was off limits. There was no seniors menu. I ordered a salad without croutons and was happy with my choice as it had a generous amount of salmon. The grazing plate came out and it looked tempting. There is wine and beer. The ladies settled for cappuccinos. I was tempted by the peanut hot chocolate on coconut milk for an extra dollar. You could try drip-filtered coffee. The coffee of the month is Kingfisher’s Dirty Irishman. There are biscuits and cakes in the window. You have the option of sitting outside or inside. We were inside thinking it would be cooler, that was a mistake. Ask to sit near the entrance or outside in the shade.

Went there for lunch, menu was extremely overpriced. No vegetarian option on the menu apart from herb bread($ 12.50). Even when I was about to settle for chips, was told all the food is cooked in the same deep fryer, seafood and chips and all. I can’t believe some still cook all in one and then charge exuberant prices for their food. Parents had gnocchi — I think the food is not prepared fresh– came out within 5 minutes. Basically if you’re going to charge crazy amounts make sure the food matches up– and add some veggie options.

Very good coffee and the meals are very tasty too. Have had lunch here several times as the garden setting is very inviting and allows for privacy and karma. No GF options marked on menu but chef is happy to provide gluten free versions.

Table service and friendly staff– tic Excellent variety of meals and snacks– tic Expensive– double tic Poorly executed meals– tic My bf ordered a beef burger and a side of chips. He was pleased, and I found myself snacking on his yummy chips. I didn’t sample the burger, but I like me a juicy, garlicky patty, and it looked sub-par. I ordered the roast of the day, which was pork, and it came complete with roast veg, purée, and crackling. The roast veg was undercooked. The crackling was overcooked. Soooooo disappointing. It was inedible. The purée was watery. The pork was nice. Not worth the price, if you ask me.

I like this spot a lot. I visited this place twice during my recent trip to Toowoomba, once for a morning tea and later that week for breakfast. For morning tea, we had the scones with jam. Beautifully fresh, soft, crisp on the outside. Jam was tasty and delicious cream to accompany. Coffee wasn’t too bad either. What’s great about this spot is getting outside into the garden, in the shade of the trees. Very comfortable and relaxing. For the breakfast — the breakfast burger was amazing — especially the house made bun it was served on. A level of freshness there that really carried through the meal. Quite a fan — worth a look if you’re out that way.
