Ok. So after raving about how good this place was 5 months ago we just went there for a latish dinner(8pm) on a Sat night only to be told they had stopped cooking. Their hours say until 11.30pm. Very disappointed!

This delightful little restaurant is not only cute with comfy seats and a nice vibe, but the food is delicious, as is the coffee! The staff are incredibly friendly, service with a smile! The Asian Style fried eggs with pork and accompanying source were all equally delicious! While the fried Haloumi, tomato with avocado, tasty home made tomato sauce and sourdough was fresh and tasty! And of course the delicious coffee was a great way to start the morning! Only downer of this dining experience was the orange juice was from a bottle and not freshly squeezed! A must visit for anyone who loves a good brunch outing!

Took the kids. Although they say it’s kids friendly I found it wasn’t really set up to cater for kids. They did provide crayons and paper for my 5yo which I loved but wasn’t much space for a pram. Pizza probably a little too exxy for what was given but the staff were kind and the place was cosy. Wasn’t keen on the outside toilet as the pathway has no lighting to it. But was clean. Would be great for parties or adults who just wanted a nice dinner together.

A recent purchase of the Entertainment Book has meant visits to local restaurants I may not normally have chosen! I had walked my pooch past Place of Stones several times and, to be honest, thought it looked a bit ordinary :) Was very pleasantly surprised when we popped in for dinner! It had a good atmosphere, was very cosy with indoor braziers and a homey feel. The menu offers mainly pizza and pasta. We got a large pizza each(average price $ 23), too much for one person, so ended up taking 1⁄3 of each home. I had the gourmet supreme… ham, chorizo, olives, anchovies, oven roasted tomatoes etc It was very tasty(although Italians would baulk at the amount of topping lol) with a perfect thin and crisp base(Italians would definitely approve of this!). Another bonus is it is BYO and only $ 4 a bottle corkage, so pretty good for those on a budget! So all in all a good experience and we will be back!(Oh, and as an aside, I did wonder if the chef used to work at an old favourite of mine, Tomato Bros in Rosalie, as 3 of the pizzas on their menu were identical to their exotic offerings!)

Place of Stones, named after the Aboriginal meaning of the suburb Taringa, is a local cheap and cheerful Italian restaurant. The thing about Place of Stones is that it is as Italian as a deep dish Pizza. It resembles the original Italian dish, but the ingredients betray the history and specificity of the original dish. In the case of Place of Stones, the food is good enough to forgive them for their liberal use of Greek flavours, sweet chilli sauce and avocado, and for the surprising lack of a single risotto from the menu. The banquet, which I had, consists of a selection of entrées, salads, pizzas and pastas. There is no dessert, but they’re happy to sell these on top as required. The entrée calzoni, filled with sweet chilli and sour cream, is decidendly un-Italian, but the chewiness of the dough hits that sweet spot that you want from Italian dough that you stop caring about the ingredients. The mediterranian salad is really just a Greek salad with lettuce, and could have done with a little more imagination(some fresh or dried oregano wouldn’t have hurt either). For the mains there was selection of pizzas and pastas. The promise of the banquet, that nobody would leave hungry, is certainly one they aim to keep. The pastas were cooked excellently, and the pizza dough was perfectly thin and chewy, something lacking from most suburban pizzerias. The duck pizza, which isn’t mentioned in their online menu, reaffirms my view that duck has no place on pizza. It tends to be too tough and chewy, but in this case it was executed well enough to not be a problem, or to detract from the pizza itself. Place of Stones, not true to the traditional Italian ideas of pizza and pasta, but executed well enough that you won’t care.

Named for the English translation of the Aboriginal suburb name, Taringa, Place of Stones is a recently opened, family operated restaurant hidden on a side street off Moggil Road in Taringa. I visited with friends for a quiet Saturday morning brunch and enjoyed some exotic breakfasts. Our breakfast was cooked by the owner himself and we were served by his wife. They were both very friendly and seemed to love what they do. The savoury mince with bubble and squeak was spicy, fully of flavour and absolutely delicious. The corn pancake with avocado, crispy prosciutto and rocket with a fantastic balsamic dressing was equally delicious and both were under $ 20. We also had caramel milkshakes that both looked and tasted great. The only thing I wasn’t excited about was the coffee; it tasted good but was a little cold and frothy instead of smooth. There were some other interesting items on the menu, though I wasn’t feeling adventurous enough to try them, like the black pudding and blood sausage. The restaurant is very open and airy and looks great with a broken mirror mural, quaint décor and white tablecloths on the tables, which always makes anywhere look swanky. I’ll definitely be returning again for breakfast and also to sample the pizzas for dinner!
