I would not recommend this place for a digital perm. I’ve had it done before at other hairdressers and thought I’d give Shinka a go. Every other time I’ve done it, the last step is for the stylist to carefully take the rolls out of my hair while keeping each section in its curled position. The curled sections would be held in place with a clip and the setting solution carefully applied so as not to mess up the curls. After waiting for the solution to do its magic, my hair would be rinsed carefully with the clips still in place, again to not mess up the curls. I thought something was wrong as soon as the Shinka hairdresser pulled the rolls away leaving the sections to unfurl and then proceeded to drag the setting solution through the strands. He was so good until then, I thought he knew what he was doing. However, after the rinse, it was clear my hair was wrong with only half hearted waves here and there.

Man, the Japanese have nimble fingers! I had a wedding to go to and had to get an up-style done. Within 40 minutes and $ 60 later I was all done and my hair looked like Miranda Kerr’s hairstyle in the David Jones promotional ads lol. I was very impressed :) I would definitely recommend this salon as the guys there seem experienced especially with asian hair which has a life of its own sometimes and hard to manage. If you have something particular in mind, make sure to take a picture as communication may be an issue as the guys have limited English. Prices are quite reasonable compared to other places which is another plus. There are two salons, the one in Galeries and another one on Clarence St. Reservations can be made via phone or through the website/email. I would definitely try this salon again.
