The kids had salted pretzels. They were pretty good. I chose the rhubarb crumble. That was a bit disappointing. Too sweet and missing the tangy bite that rhubarb should have. The base was quite thick and doughy too. Maybe I just chose the wrong thing as it was really busy there and lots of other items were walking of the shelves. I have to say though, it was well priced for afternoon tea for teenagers.

The ham, cheese and tomato in the seeded bun is fresh and tasty. They seem to make their sandwiches and bake their bread in house so it is fresh daily. At $ 5 it is a cheap and fast lunch option. There are a couple of seats out front but otherwise this place is more of a grab and go. They serve decent coffee as well.

Hazelnut croissant is the bomb and I always buy the spinach and fetta savory pastry, delicious!

My favourite place for a quick, cheap snack. They do an excellent range of sandwiches(ham, chicken, turkey, salami, pastrami, brie) which they sell at the ridiculously low price of $ 4(for unseeded bread) or $ 5(for seeded bread). The sandwiches may look small but the bread is really dense and chewy(although still crusty and delicious!) and the fillings are substantial(cheese, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, pesto) — so they always fill me up. The pastries and sweets at this place are also very good. If you come here late in the day the girls at the counter will throw in a couple of freebies with your order.

If you’re like me and skip breakfast in the rush hour to work, stopping by Luneburger German Bakery certainly makes up for it. They claim their bread is highly nutritious, however, it’s their chocolate croissants I have a weakness for! Located in Wynyard with multiple other stores, Luneburger can most often be found in most city train station tunnels(i.e. Central station).

There were a few months there that I became a little bit too obsessed with Lüneburger. I could be spotted in the lengthy queue for my morning coffee(if Jonas is working the coffee machine, be sure to say Guten Tag!), before moseying on back for a lunchtime roll — and another caffeine fix, natürlich! I have since learned(read: forced myself) to mix things up a bit, but only yesterday I found myself saying«Danke» as I walked away with my skim cap and roll. James has already rightfully given the thumbs up to the pretzels, so let me be the one to rave about the rolls. They. Are. Seriously. Good. I can never go past the ham on pumpkin seed roll, and for $ 5 that’s your lunch sorted — bargain!

Honesty… while there is a heap of delicious looking bread here(given the tick by one my extremely picky bread fanatic friends), I only come here for one reason. When I get a craving for a fresh, warm, salty German pretzel, this is where I get my fix. No… it is not the cheapest bakery ever, but there is no doubting the quality. Just thinking about the pretzels has me salivating. Might need to pick on up(on the way to the gym…)…
