This JB Hi Fi branch is located at the«basement» level of the Strand Arcade and it also means that it has the long narrow rectangular layout. [minus a star] With the weekend shopping crowd, I almost felt claustrophobic. [minus another star] Dislike the big handwritten pricing signs EVERYWHERE(stop yelling at me!!!), but I guess this is the JB Hi Fi business model. [minus another star] Pricing is not competitive(in my opinion) even for sales items, better off buying online [minus another star] However, they have pretty much all the electronic goods you might be looking from(from video game consoles to computers to DVDs to cellphones) [plus one star] let’s do the math… hmmm

JB Hi-Fi is like Australia’s answer to Empire Records, or at least that is how I imagine it to be. Somehow out of nowhere JB Hi-Fi recruited a whole bunch of individual, interesting, passionate people who are genuinely into say, music or photography. This to me is the big difference between shopping at JB Hi-Fi compared to competitors like Dick Smith or Harvey Norman. Sure you may find yourself talking to a person with purple hair and a lip ring but they will know everything about classical music or reggae or whatever it is your music question relates to. The other cool thing about JB Hi-Fi is their prices — they sell most CDs at about $ 20. Older records are even cheaper– I picked up a Damien Marley CD for $ 10 the other day. I wouldn’t shop anywhere else for CDs and it will be my go-to place for other ‘home entertainment’ in the future.
