The dumplings are delivered to you in sweaty, plastic containers and are the texture of rubber. Only one vegetarian option. If I could give a review with 0 stars, I would.

For Dim sum they are probably best to cook fresh to order. The dumplings weren’t really tasty and were a bit hard and chewy. Over all it was cheap and quick but I wouldn’t recommend for dim sum

it seem’s that just like everyone else, I just happened to stumble by Ho’s Dim Sim Kitchen. A colleague & I were simply wondering around, completely undecided as to what to eat. We take a quick right turn from Campbell St to get out of the crazy wind blowing us around and then, there, across the street, I see Ho’s… ;o) The plan was to just pop our heads in & then go… but no! The very thought was tossed aside when greeted by little golden fried gems, steaming puffy ‘lucky dip’ orbs(AKA steamed buns), and best yet, a true loose-change menu! I spent a measly $ 4.80 in total, ended up with 2 x prawn & chive dumplings(gyoza), 1 combination dumpling(I think it had beef), a BBQ pork pancake and 2 x red bean & sesame pancakes. Now don’t expect a fancy looking place & it’s important to understand that customer service only exists here to exchange their goods for your coin. In the end though, my tummy is happy, I’m content & will be back again with the coin from my new Ho’s Dim Sim savings jar!

My new Chinese restaurant opened last night to rapturous acclaim. I prepared a Yum Cha style meal with chive dumplings, prawn gow gee, scallop dumplings… by buying the lot at Horton Hires a Ho’s. Too easy!

Their prices went up by heaps. But their BBQ pork buns are still great.

How did I always manage to pass by this place an not go in there?! That’s just rid-donky-donk! It wasn’t until after a few hours of furniture shopping, that a friend recommended this place. We were starving(uhh, I was starving) and wanted to grab some Chinese food. We plopped ourselves down on a cold August Saturday afternoon, me thinking that it’s too late for dim sum yet here was Ho’s Dim Sum. Not your traditional queue up and wait to be seated and have people screaming at you(but that definitely adds to the fun experience). You order what you want, grab a Styrofoam plate, and fill it up with dipping sauces. Be cautious though — on a windy day, that Styrofoam plate with sauce could wind up on your peacoat. But I didn’t mind at all, everything that was fried was hot and crispy and fresh. Everything else, was yum… or is it yum cha? Yum yum cha? Who cares… it was good!

I discovered this place by accident.(Quite literally — I had a huge car accident right out the front of it). Okay that wasn’t even remotely true but it made for a good opener. Ho’s is a tiny place. Three of the walls inside are covered with giant glass-fronted industrial freezers full of all manner of take-home dim sum. The fourth is a little hot-glassed bain marie stuffed with pork buns, har gow, delightfully glutinous red bean buns and bamboo-wrapped steamed rice, all freshly made and all flying off the counter and into the goldfish mouths of hungry city workers. Its good for lunch, sure, but the real gravy is the take-home gear. Grab yourself a bamboo steamer(about 9 clams, from memory — bargain!) from the shelf in the top corner behind the door and go home and steam up a giant dim sum feast while walking around in your underpants and dancing to Ke$ha. What? Just me?

Are you sick of the lines at yum cha? Sick of having to wait to get what you want? Well then why not have it at home? This is about the only place I know that you can order online and get the makings delivered to you. Sure you have order a fair chunk for the delivery, but if you want to pick it up, you can get any quantity you want. For me, this store is one thing. That is, the satisfaction of a craving I sometimes get for a(still warm) egg tart. Crispy, flaky, creamy… goodness… :-) So at least make the effort to check it out. I am sure you’ll find somethign there of interest.

Sometimes you want a snack in the form of something from the yum cha trolley but takeaway. This is when you go to Ho’s Dim Sum Kitchen. You can get fluffy char siew bao(pork buns), dumplings, sesame sticky rice balls with red bean and fresh egg tarts. There are also some other takeaway options, but the above are the best. Feel like having yum cha at home? The sell frozen packs of goodies which you can heat up at home. Best ones to buy frozen are the char siew bao. Yum!

Walking by this unsuspecting dumpling shop, I was surprised by the number of people frequenting the shop during an unusual time of the day, like 3:30 when most people are still at work and have finished eating lunch. The store had a good selection of take away hot dumplings and frozen ones too at a very reasonable price, they were selling a container full of hot dumplings for $ 6 dollars. Having already had lunch, I opted for an egg tart at $ 2.20 that were being kept warm, which is great, as I hate getting egg tarts that have been left out and gone cold. Will be going back for their savoury, steamed sticky rice parcels wrapped in banana leaf. mmmmm… gooey goodness!
