So I can see why some people have said this place is not so great… It’s quiet and there aren’t lines out the door like the other cafés around. From my experience they are doing everything right. Purging, grinding on demand and delivering silky smooth milk to me in my piccolo. You can be served here quickly and once the owner warms up she is actually a real sweetheart. I come here when I don’t feel like pretending to be cool by going where all the other muppets do. Surprisingly these guys are delivering decent coffee.

I’ve been putting off writing this review for a while, because I wanted to get a better gauge of coffee shops in the area to confirm for myself what I had really experienced in my 3 visits to this particular Fibonacci. I’ve now been to 5 other coffee shops in close proximity to this one, and to put it bluntly Fibonacci @ Circular Quay just isn’t very good coffee. The positives for this place are that the service is friendly, and the price is on par with other cafes in the area. But there has to be a reason why there are lines around the corner at other coffee shops, and I’ve never actually seen more than a few people in this place. That reason is the coffee — Fibonacci Coffee is not silky, is not smooth, and I feel no love… it’s just a warm drink. Why have I been here 3 times? Long story short my manager, who no longer works with the company, obviously liked the place because you can basically get served instantly(because there is never anyone in there) and be on your way quickly — so we came here a few times whilst I was being inducted into the company. Being served instantly should be a positive, but it’s not, because with all the time in the world, they still don’t make you a good coffee. I’d rather wait 5, 10 or even 15 minutes for something better. Unfortunately that’s the nature of competition, survival of the fittest, eye of the tiger. And in the Man vs Food stakes, Man wins this round because he can go to any number of other coffee shops and get something infinitely better at the same price. For myself, there is a coffee shop less than 10m from Fibonacci directly across the road which is at least 1-star better than them, and a further 20m is a coffee shop that is 2-stars better. Another 30m after that sees me at a 5-star coffee shop. There’s no reason or need for me to go to Fibonacci at Circular Quay ever again in my lifetime. The thing is, despite the sterile nature of the café itself being in a building foyer, they do have friendly service and they do have the right pricing structure in regards to their competition(which affords them 2-stars instead of 1), but I don’t go to coffee shops for the service or price exclusively. I go there for the coffee, which has to meet a high standard and I EXPECT good service and a good price as natural companions of good coffee. Fibonacci really needs to get a gun barista on staff to take the reigns and return their customer base via word of mouth, because they will never win someone like me back whilst there are half a dozen better options all in close proximity. Enough said.
