Yes yes it’s expensive but if you ask me worth every penny! I am one lucky lady as my boyfriend has treated me to Est twice for special occasions and both times have been fantastic. First time we where on a tight schedule as we had to go to a show. The staff made sure that we could fully enjoy everything from start to finish and even as we left everyone said ‘enjoy your show’. Service wise these guys are right up there. Being European and having study hospitality my standards are high but in general I find service in Australia very low. However Est really know what perfect service is. The food is so yummy. There is not one think I did not like. I even loved the dessert and for someone not having a sweet tooth that is saying a lot. I highly recommended the degustation menu. In addition make sure you have no plans as this is a place you can spend at least 3 – 4 hours and love it.

Excellent food. We had the three course lunch menu and it was divine. I had some of the best cooked lamb I have ever tried. Service was very good too and at lunch it does draw a suits crowd. The coconut sorbet dessert was beautiful.

Food was lovely but why do you need a different staff member for every interaction? Confusing and lacks intimacy, familiarity or consistency. Especially when they all ask the same soulless obligatory questions without any sense of warmth or interest. Tetsuya next time.

Absolutely amazing! We went for a work dinner and got to try a little of almost everything. The oysters were outstanding, super crisp and a bit sweet. I had the scallops for my entrée– delicious! The Ranger Beef was my main, and my partner had murray cod, both were tender and completely out of this world. I also had some of the chocolate cake, macaroons and a taste of the passion fruit soufflé, also so good but the macaroons were the bomb! The service was outstanding!

I’m a fan of good food and great service and it’s not uncommon to find both in Sydney in my experience. est delivers on both, though charges heavily for it. This is your classic fine dining experience, and while I enjoyed both the food and service, the ambience went against the grain. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been to a fine dining restaurant in such a long time, but it came across as stuffy and in need of renovation.

Not impressed. Went here to try out the supposed best spot in town. Service was excellent and the décor, but for a tab of $ 600 for two I would expect to be blown away by the food… It was good not great. We were actually laughing the next day that we were more impressed by the food we tried at the local Westfield Mall. No joke! Skip this one and try another for the high end experience… The swanky bars underneath are worth checking out however.

Service is impeccable, though I did feel that we were waiting for out mains for a bit too long. We had plenty of wine to keep us entertained. Entrée I chose a crab salad, it was perfectly presented in that way that all the fancy restaurants like to present, blobs and swirls of sauce holding things in place, pretty flowers decorating dishes etc. Main I choose quail. It was very interesting, when I first looked I couldn’t tell which was the chicken, and which was the accompanying fungi, it was all camouflaged so well. Bots of these dishes looked amazing, but lacked punch, they were so neutral! There was no significant sweetness, saltiness, zesty ness. Everything was far too subtle, the tiniest amount if wasabij in the crab salad mayonnaise. I tried to compensate by adding salt. Dessert was the star, but fell short of my expectations, I got the only chocolate thing on the menu, like a mousse cake with cocoa on top. Left feeling un satisfied, but full.

You are supposed to leave a place like this hungry– but you don’t. If you want proper service, great food and a wonderful atmosphere this is the place. It’s not cheap(by any means) but it’s out of this world.

This pricey and beautiful restaurant may be good by Sydney standards, but it would be average and overpriced by foodie standards in the USA. The service was great, the champagne cart had an elegant feel, the local oysters offered were a delicate and flavorful. Appetizers and dessert were good, but the entrees were average at best. I ordered the cod and it was a major disappointment; frankly I considered it inedible. The dessert was above average, but not good enough to forget the cod. They do give lots of extras, like petit fours and amuse bouche, which is always nice in a restaurant this pricey.

i have nothing but good things to say about Est. had an amazing dinner here and loved every dish that came out. the sommelier on staff was amazing and paired all our dishes perfectly with wine. everything you’d expect in an upscale restaurant and then some. our server was extremely knowledgable and recommended several dishes. we were not disappointed with a single dish. the ambience was very posh and it definitely a special occasion sort of establishment. i had an enjoyable experience here and hope to make another visit soon.

Est. Restaurant is amazing. It is a bit on the high end price wise, but well worth it. I started with the spanner crab and avocado salad with ikura and other things, then i had the australian Moreton bay bug(which is like a very tasty lobster), then a New Zealand venison(the best I’ve ever had), and ended with a superb passion fruit soufflé(just amazing). My other half had the scallops which was superb. The sommelier, Claire, did a fabulous job in pairing all of our meals. Our waiter was also excellent. I would definitely recommend you give it a go and enjoy life! Bön appetite.

Exemplary service. Classy décor. Decent food. Highlights were the Moreton Bay bugs and the quail. Sadly, the other dishes were quite forgettable.

Can’t say enough about how fantastic our meal was at Est. the food was stunning and interesting. This is Australian cuisine at its best, fresh and brimming with local produce. Wine was brilliant and service was some of the best I’ve ever had. Top notch all the way round. It is pricey, but at this level, it’s worth every penny.

Food 4⁄5 Very good with classic flavour combos, well presented, light and sophisticated. However if you are expecting something more adventurous, look elsewhere. You wont find leading edge technique here either, this is all about a textbook fine dining experience. Strong wine list selection. Service 4⁄5 Excellent. I like the details such as all waiters swooping down over the guest’s shoulder and presenting the food discreetly to each and every diner — all at the same time. Tables are swept away of crumbs before dessert. Staff generally friendly and professional. Ambience 5⁄5 Swanky vibe with its vaulted ceilings, lush surrounds, candle lighting, white linen. Screams romance as hard as The Notebook. It does feel like an occasion here and rightfully so. Value 3⁄5 Opting for the four course ALC, I was surprised that little touches typically found at restaurants of this level missing. Amuse bouche, palate cleansers all notably absent whilst you are paying top dollar. I dislike places that don’t provide choice of tap water as only still or sparkling was offered — smells pretentious. OVERALL4⁄5

The food here is terrific, no doubt about it. The service too, is impeccable. However, I find it has the atmosphere of a cafeteria in a crematorium. It’s probably the ideal place to discuss confidential matters or fire someone senior.

This is the restaurant to go to for a spectacular meal. It is pricey, yes but you will not regret the money you spend here because the food is out of this world good. You don’t repeatedly win chef hats in the Sydney Good Food Guide(3 hats in 2011) without knowing how to deliver exquisite food. Even if you’re not a foodie you’ll appreciate the quality of the food, the craft of the presentation and the excellence of the service. Est. really is that good. I’ve been here a few times and every visit is better than the last. You can’t choose badly from this menu and nothing you order will be disappointing — except for the disappointment you’ll feel when your meal is over. This is not an everyday dining experience but for special occasions this is a real treat. Superb.

Ok truth is, my visit here did not cost a thing. I did not even look at the bill. How? Basically I coerced by ex-boss to take me to lunch because he missed my farewell dinner. Trusting me too much and perhaps being a bit lazy himself, he told me to choose the restaurant and make a booking. Bad, bad idea, mwwwahhaaa! So my experience here is through a corporate lunch, and wow it was the best office lunch ever lol. Due to time limitations I didn’t have all 3 courses so couldn’t experience est. at its best, but the angus beef fillet main with asparagus was divine. Service was perfect and the whole experience was nicely finished off with coffee and the best petit fours. I would definitely like to come back for the dinner service and truly see why this restaurant has held 3 hats for the last 8 years! I would also love to get a recommendation from master sommelier Franck Moreau, that would top it all off. Overall a great restaurant and reflective of Peter Doyle’s genuis.

Dinners here will cost you a pretty penny, unless of course you have someone that will take you here for that special occasion. Gentlemen, take note. If your girlfriend/partner/spouse is enthusiastic about food, then do not hesitate. Pick up the phone, make a booking(92403000). The website claims modern Australian but there are definitely French influences at work here. The food here feels like it was made to be by divine right, words are difficult to express the configuration of each dish with each one more astounding than the next. Renowned chef, Peter Doyle experiments with flavours that appear strange yet amazingly satisfying to the palate. Take a combination of juniper crusted saddle of venison and combine it with coffee-cocoa powder. Who would’ve thought. Navigating each dish is immensely satisfying for the eyes and taste buds, especially if you like surprises. We came across some blended spinach with the curious consistency of paint which was both wacky and wonderful. A fixed tasting menu will set you back 175 per person, and up to $ 325 with matching wines. The menu changes periodically(at least since the last time I was there), but choose the tasting degustation menu for a little somethin’ somethin’ of everything. If you aren’t the food enthusiast of the pair, chances are you will love the service. Feel pampered by a personal waiter, who won’t hesitate to explain precisely what each portion is on your plate, how to pronounce it,(if it is edible or a decoration) even if you have the menu handy on your table. Food glides in front of you from either side, like in a well choreographed ballet and makes the atmosphere of the place all the more special. Oh, and I’m urging you to order the passionfruit soufflé with passionfruit sorbet — it is seriously worthy enough to kill over.
