A clever concept executed really well, I love live comedy and this took it to a new and uniquely immersive level casting the audience/tour group as visitors from 2113 in a twisted sprawling recreation of 2013 seen through the eyes of your guide penguin(comedian Xavier Toby). He really hit the nail on the head with his satire of how ridiculously wasteful and self centred society is, but never became too preachy in the process. The narrative he creates weaves in Sydney landmarks, businesses and passers by to such great effect that it was easy to suspend reality and join him in this imaginary world no matter how ridiculous it got. Despite the tour lasting for 2 hours I would have been happy to go on for longer as it was laugh out loud funny. It’s as ridiculous as it sounds and a whole lot of fun. I’ll be watching out for more of his Xavier Toby’s work in the future and will happily pay to go again.

Ok, that was really funny! Unfortunately, as a non-native speaker, I didn’t catch all the jokes, but anyways, I really liked the crazy idea. A sarcastic tour through the CBD, commenting all the current obsessions(money, coffee, advertising…), from the detached view of penguin from year 2113(don’t ask me, just experience it). What I really enjoyed were different reactions of all the actors we met(you know, all the people on the streets). Just imagine yourself, walking down the George street, suddenly meeting group of guys in silly hats and fluoro vest, led by penguin, which yells into his megaphone really weird things. Xavier Toby was really quick-witted, making fun of whatever he just saw, so all in all, I would recommend his tour as an unconventional way of how to spend some early evening in the City.

Human x Penguin babies. In 2113, apparently the cutest thing evaaaar, Coming from an animal industry, I can only envision the zoonotic consequences! Sorry, just cant help it. Though, I’m assured all such worries are wiped out in future times. People stopped being idiots at some point, and Xavier Toby is here to tell us why. Strolling through the CBD of Sydney dressed like a Big issue seller, took me back to my university protest march days. Everyone gather at Town hall and point out the flaws with modern education and society, whilst disrupting the goings on of everyday life in the heart of the city. I was glad to see that ideas similar to my own«standing up for what I believed in» were brought forward from 1996 to 2013, in the form of a retrospective time traveling tour from 2113, and in the form of hilarious Comedy. Xavier took us on a trip back to the future and made us laugh at how stupid some of today’s concepts such as advertising, waste management, Politics and popular culture really are in the grand scheme of things. An interactive walk from George street to Oxford street saw us question our own choices, frankly, whether we read enough books anymore and most importantly to value and cherish Pigs. as if you couldn’t value them enough already, I mean they do give us about 185 products. In the future though, they give us functioning body parts, including tasty tasty skin. Mmmm sun burn never tasted so good. Get along to see Xavier and get out of your comfort zone.

That was fun. As a person from modern-day 2113 it was fascinating to be led, via traditional Tour Penguin™, through a simulation of what life was like in Sydney in 2013. What a silly place it was: full of money-obsessed, environment-wrecking, advertising-besieged, art-hoarding idiots. Not like the creative, fun, clean, pig-supported world we know today. (Outdoor, public, interactive comedy is odd enough, but with a message? That’s not something you get a chance at every day. Comedian Xavier Toby balances the laughs with social and political commentary, and presents a setting that’s surreal enough for you to observe the ludicrous nature of our modern urban lives. A unique Elite event: thanks Unilocal.)

Another rockin’ elite event to keep us all in good spirits. I’m a big fan of sustainable practices(finite resources and all) so the retrospective from«the future» on «day to day life» was really interesting. I also like how one of the themes for the walking tour about people using smartphones in a social situation(like a dinner) to communicate(something I definitely see a-lot nowadays — I won’t judge but doing it as discretely as possible is the way to go, how else are we supposed to post live photos or check in on Unilocal right?) But the biggest highlight was the tour leader dressed as a penguin taking a stab at Optus ;-) Many laughs to be had there, for those who are currently(stuck) on Optus, or have used it before. I definitely recommend anyone who loves living sustainable lives to check out the tour, but even people who is curious to learn about sustainability should check it out(it may change your life).
