Quick, Robin — to the Korea Cave! I love this little hideout. It’s tucked in a pedestrian alley near the Metro Theatre and opposite the Hoyts Cinemas, and it’s a cute little nook replete with booths and couches and it just takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the George Street chaos. It would actually make a great coffee den. I love Korean food, and had the signature marinated beef dish that came with 4 adorable little side dishes and rice. It was good, without being mind-blowing. A perfectly serviceable lunch. I really wanna try their soups, like the octopus and kimchi one looked outstanding. But it needs to be a cold day for soups, right?

Apparently this place has been here for awhile now, tucked away in the alley next to the Metro Theatre. They serve a variety of Korean dishes from stir fries, to hotpots to BBQ. I guess this place is more comforting home style Korean cooking rather than a stand out establishment. I hear this place is popular with uni students and I can understand why — the prices are very reasonable. It’s quite funky to feel the rattle of trains underground as they approach Town Hall station.

Sydney is spoilt with choices when it comes to Korean food. Café Cya is another long-standing Korean restaurants in Sydney’s Koreantown. My uni friend introduced this place to me, and said that nothing much has changed since she first step foot in here 10 years ago. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing but it’s definitely decent. What’s good: bul-go-gi and seafood pancake.

Saw this restaurant by surprise… Cozy lil korean restaurant somewhere at a hidden street. We ordered two dishes, one beef bulgogi which comes with a bowl of rice and 4 small side dishes. The kimchi is so tasty! The other main dish was beef and octopus kimchi soup. Amazingly good, we finished up the food until the last bit! Simply yummy. Very authentic korean food. Price is good and I will be surprise if the chef is not korean. Ha ha ha

The last time I went to Café Cya was during uni days which feels like many moons ago. FOOD I still remember with fond memories the spicy rice cake so this was a definite must when I went back last week. On top of this we ordered the seafood pancake and glass noodles. Whilst still good the spicy rice cake wasn’t as good as I remembered. Maybe it’s due to the phenomenon that takes place in my head whereby food I thought tasted good seems to end up tasting better and better in the head the longer I don’t have it. The other dishes were also ok. I quite liked the sides here though. OVERALL Think I might leave this place to being a fond uni memory where I could get a cheap meal as a poor student.
