Looking through the window at the little asian inspired designer items on display, I was intrigued by this store on the corner of Crown Street. One of the items that caught my eye inside were the cool asian print belts. Walking inside with my family I noticed an elderly couple inside who were being served by either one of the owners or sales assistants. The couple were looking at purchasing one of their delicate glass plates, with a leaf like pattern etched into the glass. Another of their nice pieces. The sales assistant was very knowledge about the plate, the company, where the plate was from and how it was made. After browsing the store for what seemed like another fifteen or twenty minutes though, no one had served us, not just me, but my whole family. In fact, it seemed more like we were ignored-I don’t think we suited the normal pretentious, up-market clientelle the store owners and sales people were used to. Oh well, their loss. This store had some great items, though the service really let this place down.

This shop houses the epitome of fancy frivolous frills. Nothing in Mrs Red and Sons is incredibly essential in the ongoing operation of one’s life. Instead it’s all about enhancements. And indulgences. The toy robots in the window display caught my eye first(let it be known that I have a freakish and almost unhealthy obsession with robots). Pushing my way though the royal red door, I found the shop’s contents to be uniquely varied. Everything was tied together, however, by an Asian theme. I loved the silk scarves and floral printed kimono belts near the front window. They would undoubtedly add the perfect punch of springtime color to a plain outfit. The jewelry is definitely worth nothing. One can guess that whoever Mrs Red is, she has dramatic and elegant style with a funky twist. I loved the jewelry line that utilized chunky pieces of crystal chandelier as pendents and earring drops. In a contrasting style, there seemed to be an elephant theme going. With necklaces made out of large enameled elephant pendents, you wouldn’t have to try hard to make a statement. If you’re searching for something to spice up your old wardrobe or need a gift for that special friend(who has it all), swing on through the large door and into the little world that is Mrs Red and Sons.

Push open the big red door to Mrs Red & Sons and you step into a calm, dainty shop filled with beautiful gifts you will want to touch everything you see. The shop is usually filled with soft calming music and you’ll feel like whispering so as not to break the serene spell. Mrs Red & Son’s mantra is «things with beauty and meaning» and this shop more than lives up to its name. The entire shopping experience is wonderful, the staff are polite and helpful and the shop features a good selection here for such a small shop. Mrs Red & Son’s features jewellery, porcelain dishes, vases, scarves and even some clothing — and once you’ve selected your gift it will be beautifully gift wrapped for you. This shop is a real treat.
