This is one of those really special places. Blacksmith is Surrey Hills manages to deliver extraordinary quality on so many fronts: Environment: stepping through the door instantly transports you to a unique place, like a tavern out of some kind of steam punk-ish Middle Earth fantasy, except not. Hard to explain that, beat just to pop in and experience it yourself. Great atmospheric music is always playing — you may even catch a folk cover of a pop song or a Spanish style Pachebel’s Cannon Coffee: very good coffee here. A range of nifty brewing devices line the selves of a specialty coffee bar with exciting range of single origins, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s nice to see A proper cup of coffee in a proper copper coffee pot ;) Food: the food manages to give a unique the regular Café sandwich options with some really gourmet house made pickles and relishes. For the sweet tooth — there is a delectable assortment of tortes, tarts and pastries. Juices, smoothies and iced coffee and chocolate also available! Alcohol: yes there is, and the excitable palette there is a good range of craft beers and top shelf whiskey — because, you know, beer, whiskey, blacksmiths. All in all, this place is most definitely worth a visit, if just for the experience!

I came with a large group from the US and we got a myriad of different sandwiches but I had the Salmon and Egg sandwich. This sandwich had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and it was the best salmon sandwich I have ever had. 5 stars.

Lovely place with great décor. Love their freshly made juices and oh my god the French toast is incredible! Decent coffee too.

Good for coffee, food was okay, menu a bit too complicated and the décor was a bit confused and uninviting. On the plus side service was great and the coffee was good

Blacksmith Café is on Chalmers Street in Surry Hills. On weekends there is street parking available outside the café but you need to purchase a ticket from the parking meter. I’ve walked past the Blacksmith in Mona Vale many times but have to confess I’ve never been in. I’ve had friends rave about the drinks and tapas. Now I’ve visited the sister café in the city I’ll definitely be heading to Mona Vale to visit. The city Blacksmith Café is really cool. It’s decked out with leather seats and menus. Objects made of wrought iron and metal light fixtures follow the blacksmith theme. Today it was busy but they do take bookings. We were able to get a table right away. Greeted by a friendly staffer when we walked in. The service is good. Our waitress was prompt to take our order. The coffee arrived swiftly and was nice and strong. Toby’s Estate is their coffee of choice. The food took a little while to come out but was worth the wait. Our breakfast was fresh, tasty and well presented. Breakfast is served all day which is great for a lazy Sunday brunch(or second breakfast). I’ve read they make their sourdough bread and other baked goods on site. Highly recommended the Blacksmith Café :)

This place came highly recommended by a fellow«brunch lover». Disappointing really. Places that have less items on their menus usually do those things very well, quality being important. Not here. Both meals were cold to start with. Coffees ordered as «large», came out in standard size cups, $ 4.50 a bit much. At least is was hot as ordered and a nice flavour. Partner normally has 2 large coffees, but not willing to pay another $ 4.50 for a standard cup. I had the chorizo eggs, not very tasty. Chilli jam was very sweet with no chilli kick. Very small amount as well. Avocado salsa was mashed avocado with the usual ingredients. The avocado was obviously bruised as that was all I could taste. Mashing avocado is one way I find that restaurants/cafes try to disguise bruised/rotten avocados. If its in chunks you can see it. Let me tell you, you can see the black/grey colouring in the mash and you can taste it. It tastes awful, and is unacceptable. Takes away from any other flavours in the food. Partner had the breakfast burger. «Ordinary, not very tasty» were the comments. Would we go back, NO. Would we recommend, again, NO. It was not busy when we were there, plenty of wait staff as well.

Blacksmith is the new city outpost for the Blacksmith up in Mona Vale, and while I haven’t been to that one I imagine it’s pretty good. The outfit here is gorgeous… there’s some serious industrial/blacksmith interior porn. This place sets a vibe that’s hard not to remember. They serve Toby Estate beans and the flat white I had was pretty satisfying. I read other reviews stating this place has woeful service, but I didn’t experience any of that on a Friday around noon. I walked in, was seated promptly and they served me water immediately. Food came out quick as well. I’m usually not a chorizo guy, but I said to hell with it and ordered the Chorizo Eggs and it was the best decision I made that Friday. It’s a chorizo omelette that comes with guacamole, asparagus, sour cream and sour dough with a sweet jam dip. Absolutely delicious and packed with flavour. They’ll drop off salt/pepper for you if you like as well. I saw other items on the menu that I’ll be coming back to try, such as the soft shell crab burger, rough forked avo, or one of their several baguettes… the menu is pretty massive. They just picked up a liquor license so they have happy hours from 4−7pm on Thursdays/Fridays. This place does it all; whether you want a quick to-go breakfast with baked goods, a sit down breakfast/lunch, or to kick back with drinks with friends/colleagues you can do that here. The only gripe I have is there’s only one cashier, so the queue to pay can be a bit of a wait if it gets packed.
