This place was fantastic! Great atmosphere and décor, wonderful attentive staff. Serving sizes are quite small, we found that about 5 dishes with 3 of them being sides was a good amount for us. Favourite dish by far was the Konbi cured Black Angus sirloin with mushrooms. Both the meat and the mushroom were insanely juicy. We also loved the wagyu beef dumplings and the kingfish sashimi — both were ridiculously tasty. The only thing we found a tad disappointed was the duck breast. Texture was great, but it came sitting in a soup which had an unexpected tangy taste to it. Maybe a more adventurous eater would’ve liked trying something different, but we like sticking to familiar tastes. We finished off with the chocolate bar for dessert and oh my god. This was worth coming back for on its own. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve enjoyed a dessert so much. Overall though, if you stick with the waiter’s recommendations, you really can’t go wrong here!

Exceptional food and lovely service. Had the set menu and each dish built beautifully on the last. The produce was fresh and expertly prepared. Congratulations to the chef and the team. Truly a restaurant worth visiting and worth trying. Top class food, with reasonable prices.

Bar H has shifted its menu recently and I am not sure if it is a hit… The previous menu had hero dishes on it that really stood out like the pork buns, seafood dumplings and steamed fish fillet. With simple sides and accompaniments. The new menu does not have the style of the last with some over spun dishes that have a ton of elements that leads to confused dishes. However you can’t beat Bar H for a lovely spot to grab some food and lovely drinks. To be fair my rating is comparing Bar H to itself and is definitely a spot you should try out.

Bar H manages to ‘plate’ sex with unpretentious sophistication. It’s dark and romantic, cozy and enveloping but not claustrophobic so you can to tune out everything else around you, and the service is just right; attentive but unobtrusive. My group dined like royalty for a mere $ 80pp, including 5 plates, a dessert, and two bottles of an amazingly complex semi-dry Riesling. The menu is elevated comfort food with Asian flair — must-try’s being the prawn toast and crispy saltbush. The whole menu is fairly rich but doesn’t amount to too much guilt if you’re sharing… or focusing on the liquid part.

Let me put this out there straight away: you might be tempted to skip the crispy fried old man saltbush. But you’d be wrong — dead wrong. There’s something special in that old man saltbush and once you slather that, er, delicate bush in chilli mayo, the truth will set you free. Once you’ve melted that hurdle, you’ll easily slide into the more comfortable section of this sexy menu like the stir fried mushrooms, pork buns, sichuan spiced eggplant — and of course — the silken tofu with blackbean and chilli. Everything we ordered was lovely from the drinks(ch-ch-check the happy hour specials) to the final dish. Listen, it was all good. And the steamy atmosphere with the open kitchen, dark corners and low, warm lighting was just begging for a date night. But honestly, it was all about the old man salt bush. Don’t miss it.(Well, you can’t miss it, whether you order it or not.)

After passing by Bar H multiple times, I finally made it on over for a 7-course dinner thanks to one of those online vouchers. You would probably think because it’s multiple courses, that the portions would be small but by about the 5th dish, I was starting to struggle. Our lovely dinner included the following dishes: 1. Deep fried old man salt bush w/Sichuan pepper & lemon(my first time eating saltbush and it was tasty!!) 2. Steamed pork wontons w/shellfish & chili oil 3. Steamed beef bun 4. Braised W.A. octupus w/fresh cucumber kimchi 5. Chilled silken tofu w/ginger & shallot 6. Steamed clams w/chinese sausage & saltbush(my favourite out of the courses) 7. Caramelised oxtail w/plum & chili(very sweet) along with herb salad & steamed rice Customer service was top-notch! Always attentive(my water glass didn’t go empty for a minute) and very friendly service at this modern Asian-influenced place.

Bar H is my kind of place. They have a FANTASTIC drink menu featuring a great selection of wine and craft beer, artful cocktails and some tasty looking Asian-inspired bites all very reasonably priced. Good tunes and candlelight give the place a sexy, sophisticated yet unpretentious vibe and the service is super friendly. They’re located about a block away from Wentworth Avenue near Central Station but a world away from the hustle and bustle. Great place to come relax with a few glass of red or a few cold ones.

Bar H has been around for a while now, and has quickly gained a reputation for providing exceptional quality food and service, at reasonable prices. Sydney has been somewhat lacking in good quality mid-range options(though things have certainly improved in the last few years), and that’s exactly the place where Bar H sits. Bar H is brought to you by husband and wife team Hamish Ingham(chef — formerly of Billy Kwong) and Rebecca Lines(restaurant manager/sommelier). The menu is constantly changing, with a focus on fresh, simple, seasonal produce. Set on a corner location, with a large open window overlooking the street, Bar H is a dark, sexy, inviting bar. It’s the kind of place, you can pull up a stool, kick back and enjoy a relaxing evening. Mr M and I arrive for dinner on Friday evening, and it’s just what we are looking for. We settle down on stools in front of the open window and instantly we relax and feel at home. The first thing we notice is the fast and friendly service, the second thing we notice is the understated, glam fit out. Nothing is over the top, the balance is just right. Rather than focusing on entrée/main/dessert, the menu is snack style and designed to be shared, with a distinct Asian flavour. If the menu choice is all too hard, you can always choose Hamish’s Banquet menu at $ 75 pp. This night we choose: * Sashimi of Kingfish with Pickled Mushroom * Crispy Prawn & Fish Wontons with Chilli Oil Dressing * Sichuan Salt & Pepper Calamari with Green Chilli Aioli The dishes are excellent, with the standout being the Kingfish Sashimi. Each dish is full of flavour, unfussy and simply executed. There is an impressive wine list, with Australian, New Zealand and European options, as well as beers and a selection of interesting cocktails on offer. I must say the Bar H Signature Martini sounds like one to try… next time. This is a great option for a relaxing evening with good company. You can be assured of consistently good food and service, and best of all, it wont break the bank. What more could you want? Oh, and if you’re looking to impress at your next dinner party, be sure to check out the 2 hour cooking course on offer with Hamish. Your secret is safe with me.

It’s dark, it’s small, and it’s oh-so delicious. The concise yet interesting menu at Bar H proves the consideration behind each dish, with execution of meals to match. My old office was just around the corner, and co-workers and I would relish any excuse to head here for an after work drink and share plate or two. The menu has since changed, but at the time we would return for the mulloway sashimi dressed with soy sauce, orange zest and shredded pickled beetroot — delicate, zingy and fresh. The cucumber salad with white anchovies and vinegary dressing was also a great play on crunchy and soft textures as well as fresh flavours. Some items are quite overpriced for what you get, like the prosciutto plate which was simply drizzled with olive oil and scattered with a few raw almonds and dried fig bits. The plates are only small so the cost can add up if you’re not careful, so come with a nibbles-and-drinks approach rather than a full-blown dinner in mind.
