The home of footy in Western Australia, Domain Stadium(Paterson Stadium — Subi) has gotten a fairly bad wrap over the years. Whilst most states around Australia have successfully renovated existing venues sadly this isn’t going to be the same for Subiaco Oval. Subiaco Oval will always be the spiritual home for AFL in Western Australia, having seen hundreds of games here it will be a little sad when it eventually comes to an end once the new stadium is ready. The good: It’s easy to get to given it is fairly well surrounded by public transport, with a large number of buses coming in from Morley, Karrinyup and Murdoch to ease the traffic congestion for special events. It’s a short walk to Subiaco/Leederville after if you are looking for bars and restaurants after the game. The city end stand was a great addition to this ground but they shouldn’t have ceased there a larger version of this stand taking into account the Roberts Road — 3 tiered stand would have created a lot more seats then are currently available. The bad: the food, I cannot be less impressed by the food at Subiaco, after a big media beat up about cut price food, it sure looks like that they are spending less than ever on the food. Having been to almost every footy venue in Australia I can hands down say the only one who seems to have gotten the food aspect right is the MCG and other grounds should take a leaf out of their book. A great ground for watching football at(if you know what seats to sit in), great atmosphere from a home team point of view, not so much from a visitors perspective. It is also quite protected by the wind/cold. If you have never been here to watch AFL do it in the next couple of years, who knows what fate awaits Subiaco Oval once the new stadium is built.

Soooo uncomfortable, we watch the game like in a can of sardines. I also think supporters should be divided for each team, it’s much more fun for fans to be grouped. The staff is nice though. There aren’t many options on the menu but it’s a stadium anyway.

Very disappointing visit. Everything from the quality of the ground to the services supplied to the crowd was the lowest of lows. The range of food to be purchased was shocking! McDonalds has a better & bigger range of food that is available at the stadium. The way the AFL assign tickets to patrons wanting to go to the football from interstate teams is less than desirable. The stadium should be filled evenly with opposing supporters, however it is hard for any opposing supporters to attend. The only good thing about the stadium is the train system which is close by.
