With an array of choices for a good Korean BBQ in Strathfield, we decided to give Won Jo a go. It wasn’t exactly a decision but a mere random walk-ins of the closest Korean BBQ to our parked car just because there were so many of them we couldn’t decide. The place was empty, it was lunch time on a Monday Public Holiday. There were only three tables filled, which eventually grew to six tables by the end of our meal. Small plates, cups, water jug and cutleries are ready at your table. The problem was there were only 2 plates and 2 cups when it’s a 4 seat table and the water jug was half empty, I supposed they forgot to refill it after the last customer. Service was basic and good luck in getting the staff to notice you. If you want to grab the staff’s attention you need to do something obvious when the staff walked past or shout ‘excuse me’ really loud. They have extensive meat selections and set menus for BBQ-ers, which I was excited about, and great selections of hot pot and stews. We opted for Ox Tongue, Bulgogi which was nicely marinated and some mushrooms to BBQ. We also had the Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken and it was exactly as it should be, sweet, sticky and spicy. The Banchan or Korean side dishes were not as many as other Korean BBQ places I’ve been to, but they were tasty. My favourite was the Cheesy Corn. I find their price is reasonable. $ 62 feeds a family of four and I was so full I had to doggy bag some of the fried chicken. And the food definitely made up for the slow service.

It was a different experience at this restaurant. I have never been to a Korean BBQ before so this is my first impressions. The beef ribs were chewy but had a nice flavour to it. There was unlimited assortments such as kimchi and bean sprouts. It’s very busy so expect a wait of at least 20 minutes. It is overall a restaurant that I would not go to again.

My group of friends ordered a variety of different meat dishes to try, including the combination meat, one of the wagyu beef, other beef, pork and chicken dishes, as well as a seafood pancake and fried chicken. Everything was delicious and exceeded my expectations. The portions of the meat were more than reasonable, and the whole meal was well worth it for BBQ, approximately just under $ 20 per person, which I thought was excellent value given how much we all ate. Have been here a few times and it’s always a great meal.

Wow! This was Korean BBQ at a whole new level. I expected it to be similar to Toronto but boy was I wrong. In Toronto I was never really a fan and didnt make my way out to this type of dinner very offten. I always seemed to find the food to be a bit blan. I was very shocked at how the servers actually waited on us the entire time cooking our food for us. This doesnt happen in Toronto which I find funny considering they actually work for TIPs and in Australia they dont. My friend took charge in ordering the meal. It was a shared meat platter with everything you could ask for. beef, chicken, pork belly(which for the record i didnt try) and a ton of sides to go with it. We also got a cheesy corn dish as well. Everything was good and I have no complaints. Now what shocked me is the letus my friend asked for. She explained that I am to place the meat, sause and sides in the middle and roll it up like a wrap and eat it. This blew my mind! I have never experiences this on this level and it changed my take on this cusine 100%. The atmospher was nice and like I mentioned before service was on top of their game. I would happily recomend this place to anyone feeling in the Korean mood.

Tried this restaurant about a year ago, not bad experience, so we decided to visit it again for dinner. But this time, we were very disappointed. We ordered beef rib stew and spicy seafood and tofu stew with rice. The beef rib is tough and very chewy, and the soup is just plain. The seafood stew I ordered is the worst I have ever tasted. There are one small prawn, one small baby octopus, three very small clams and several tiny mussels, and they are not fresh at all. The clams and mussels are very sandy, and my teeth were suffering. The soup is lack of depth but umami(any MSG?). The sides are very average, and nothing stands out. By the way, the minimum amount for EFTPOS is $ 50.
