This is an excellent second hand bookstore and although erring on the small and claustrophobic side of display cases, taking the time to peruse each shelf is well rewarded. Prices are reasonable with most books around the $ 10 mark and going up and down from there based on the books condition and its prevalence in the current second hand market. Staff here know their stuff and all the books are in tip top condition except for some of the rarer older hardbacks, in which case their may be a tiny rip in the dust jacket. Popular authors are well covered here, as are the classics, but expect the unexpected as you’ll find yourself walking out with some little known book where the blurb is simply tantalising. If you have your eye out for something in particular staff will help you find it in the shop or will promise to keep an eye out for it when purchasing goods. Although petite Chapter Two delivers.

I love books, but I find it hard to fork out $ 30 for a book. I read too many for that to be an affordable option. So as well as shopping online I’ve turned to second hand books, and it’s great to find a family-owned place like Chapter Two Books. Kate and Nick are really lovely, and on the weekend you might find one of their kids helping out by adding up the price of your books or counting your change. It’s a really small store, so it’s impressive what they manage to fit in it. There are cook books, history books, kids novels, modern literature, all the classics, and so much more. It’s a great spot to just browse, but chances are you won’t be able to resist buying at least one book. Plus, I love that they have EFTPOS, something not all second hand bookstores need to have.

This was a quaint find on a beautiful Stirling afternoon, tucked down the back of the small outdoor arcade lane. It’s a family run second hand book business by two passionate book worms, who care about the appearance and quality of all the books they accept into their collection. They respect the average person likes to have a browse and will gladly help with any query they may have about the collection and assist in finding a title. You could be forgiven for thinking the majority of books are new, because they are scrutinised so well before being presented. No ordinary run of the mill second hand book store as you may have gathered but they also have some rare, out of print and highly valuable books also, like the Arthur Boyd Drawings book, autographed by him and handsomely priced at $ 350. And yes there are others in this price range all kept under glass, lock and key as expected. I noticed a few keys placements and even though I’m not into Japanese gardening, I felt like I wanted to buy the book… very persuasive. They certainly know their stuff and it shows.

This is a great second hand bookstore. The owners have a real passion for decent literature, and know that decent stock is what will keep customers coming back for more. Everything in here is classic or close to. How do I know? Because I once tried to sell them a bunch of old books I found in my parents shed, and they turned most of them down. The books were all those easily forgettable cheesy crime fiction best sellers. They took a few of the good ones from distinguished authors, and sympathetically pushed the rest of the pile back into the box for me to take home. Another credit to this store is that they opened their doors a few years ago just two shops over from the well established and popular Matilda Bookshop in Stirling. A ballsy move, but their commitment to the secondhand market has done them well. There’s proper knowledge and appreciation in this store, and the owners offer decent prices and the opportunity to exchange decent book for something from their shelves. Highly recommended if you’re hunting classics old and new.
