As much as I love spending a summer day here. The beach itself can get solo filthy. Once it felt like I was swimming in the Red Sea it was so salty. Saying that though, it is not going to stop me from coming here. St Kilda Beach is just too convenient and overall awesome.

Okay okay Sydney, stop going on about Bondi and how AHH-MAYYY-ZING it is, okay? We get it. You have great beaches, tanned good looking people and like to party. Well we’ll let you take the title when we compete on the beach front because we have the great coffee, the hipsters and the culture seeping out of every pore and we think that’s a far better credit to our name. All is not lost for us Melburnians when it comes to the sand and water — we have St Kilda Beach. No, we can’t exactly go surfing here but it’s pleasant nonetheless and the backpackers flock here in the thousands to frolic about, get sand in their underwear and work on their lobster-pink tans. On windy days, kite surfers a little further down the bay are a great spectacle and if we’re patient in the evenings we can watch Fairy Penguins come in to nest in the rocks. There’s loads of ice cream shops nearby and a few beach front restaurants and bars(of varying quality) to keep every punter happy.

Probably Melbourne’s most popular beach in an inner city bayside suburb of St Kilda. In cold and inclement weather; the beach is neglected and some of the outlets refuse to open which makes complete commercial sense. However when sunshine and/or warm weather appears in Melbourne, nearly all of Melbourne is out in force at this popular beachfront where locals walk their dogs and run for hours on end in some cases. It is a great spot to escape Acland Street, and spend some time in nature; yet this location is only a 15 minute tram ride from the City. Tram route 96 is the easiest way to get there if your coming to St Kilda Beach by public transport. And the BBQ’s are in full force; sometimes in warm weather too with the occasional events put on for children. Its well designed. This great locale is also supported by Luna Park nearby, as well as St Kilda Pier. A hot spot to also exercise at a gym on site, and also receive a massage at one of Melbourne’s well known day spas down here too. Err on the side of caution when windy. Great glimpses of the MCG and the city skyline.
