I was working in the area for a few weeks had to travel with train. What a great place for breakfast considering the standard that those station gas food outlets have set. The food was more then enough for the morning some of the things on the menus are more then what you can eat for breakfast. Nevertheless if you are in the station try their reasonably priced drinks and a great customer service.

Filthiest place, but gets you your fatty potato cakes when you need them the most.

I have nothing bad to say about this place. There’s a bit of warm fuzzies associated with this joint — when my boyfriend lived in St Kilda I would need to catch the train to South Yarra station and then hop on another train to uni. On those days I’d stay over at his, sometimes oversleep and think SHITSHITSHITIMGOINGTOBELATEFORUNI and waddle to the train station. I’d order a large hot chocolate or coffee at South Yarra Express with literally two minutes until my train arrived, I would be given my hot beverage with a smile and still have ample time to walk down the platform and get on my train to uni. What I love about South Yarra Express is that they’re fast. No pussyfooting around the machine, or the milk, or the tidy selection of hot and cold food they have available. They don’t try to engage you in bullshit small talk because they know you need caffeine. They know your train comes in three minutes and the platform is on the other side of the station. They know you want sauce with that and two napkins cos the hot food’s so damn greasy. They understand your needs and it’s awesome. The prices aren’t ridiculous, which is pleasantly surprisingly since train station take away prices tend to be on the stupid side. $ 2.50 for a regular hot drink and I’d still have enough spare change for my train ticket. To be fair the coffee’s pretty tasteless and the milk’s always too hot, but it would be churlish to take off a star for that. Love this place. It’s pretty cool.

I am a real fan of this establishment. Normally fast food and take away outlets at train stations tend to be a rip off; however not at this establishment(with hardly any competition mind you) yet in one of Melbourne’s most expensive suburbs, the food is so cheap here. The price of a chocolate bar for only $ 1.50; that would definitely give the supermarkets a run for their money, as well as cheap coffee. And wait for it, what I had was a cheap muffin for only $ 2, yet it filled the spot. That(cheap prices, dirt cheap prices for take away food in Melbourne, really) in tandem with high quality, pleasing old fashioned service and you are onto a winner. This establishment is clearly a winner and deserves my five star rating towards it. Something would be so wrong with the world if this establishment was to shut down tomorrow. If the latter was to happen; quality low priced food and coffee might be gone forever. If you ever happen to alight from your train at South Yarra train station; please do not buy your food at Flinders Street; just wait two more stations and buy your hunger pains cure from the South Yarra Express. A real fan.
