Firstly, Dumpling snobs get over yourselves, you are eating in a Dumpling Restaurant. Anyone that walks into one of these Dumpling restaurants expecting fine finger cuisine and French styled service you are clearly missing the point. This Dumpling House is like every other one in Melbourne and Sydney, its wam bam thank you mam service is to be expected. The food was ultra cheap $ 25 for 3 people in total and drinks and it all came out in a fast fashion. The food was good, definitely try the Pumpkin Cakes as they were the best I’ve had so far. Everything else was to be expected.

I swear the leftover dumplings at this place get reused! I really hate that the plates are swamped in water and the dumpling cases and filling scream lazy.

Mostly poor quality dumplings. The red bean bun was the only thing I liked out of everything I hate. The prawn/spinach dumplings hardly consists of prawn. The pork dumplings were over-processed & had a tuna-like texture. The staff forgot our orders but it was busy being a Friday night. My partner & I walked out extremely disappointed. Poor service for an All-You-Can-Eat discount voucher. Did not meet my expectations at all… tsk tsk tsk

What is it with Melbourne and service, maybe they can just smell the Sydney on me. The food was cheap — 6 people for less than $ 80 — but the service was terrible. Everyone in the place looked as though they’d much rather be somewhere else. Food was also forgettable, it wasn’t bad per se, just underwhelming with no strong flavours or stand out dishes. Disappointing when all I wanted to was to nom some tasty tasty dumplings.

Oh dear. Just when I thought dumplings were a safe bet, I’eve been disappointed again. We ordered a range of steamed and fried dumplings, and nothing stood out. Not pork, not beef, not prawn and chicken. Not even the spring onion pancake, Service was quick, the place is clean, and for under-$ 40, I guess one can’t expect too much. Except, that is, when one has eaten very good dumplings elsewhere without compromising price, service or cleanliness. Hmm. Let me be fair: It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t great, either. Stock-standard fare, one might say, but that’s really no excuse for bland flavours, oily pancakes and an overall impression that mediocre just wasn’t considered a problem for them. But if you want good dumplings, dumplings that will make you smile and comment to friends, go elsewhere.

Okay this is the newly opened sister store of Shanghai dumpling House in Tattersall lane in the city. when you walk in it looks very clean and tidy. A kind of mixture between old and new word. I had the vegetable mushroom dumplings, fried pork dumplings and Chinese Vegitables. Large portions, 20 pcs for $ 6– $ 8 so its great for a cheap eat. There’s one thing I come to expect when going out for dumplings and it’s this oily black bean chilli sauce that comes on the side of every table(what I like to call death sauce) and this seems to be the only dumpling place in the world that doesn’t have this. All they have is a stock standard shopping centre brand of chilly sauce. I was pretty disappointed in the fried dumplings. Generally these are pan fried which gives you a nice caramelised flavour. However these were deep fried which made them more like pork nuggets than dumplings. I was going to give this two stars because of the deep fried dumplings but because it’s cheap it’s made a push to three. The store was nice and clean, staff are friendly. I don’t want to give it a bad review but I’ve had better dumplings elsewhere. But for cheap eats you can’t go past shanghai dumpling house.
