I came here on Easter in 2014. The food was«OK». I had an omelette but it was so smothered in butter it didn’t taste that great. The coffee is also ok but could use improving. It came out extremely bubbly which is a bad sign.

Well, I guess the co-ordinator of my book group has done it once again — picked a really cool place to have our monthly book club. Okay, she hasn’t always hit the jackpot, but she definitely had done so with this place. I guess that’s why I really like this club because we are always going to these really cool places. Anyway the first thing that I noticed when I walked in was that the table was covered in Little Golden Books. At first I thought I may have read the wrong book, but then again I never realised that King Lear was written in Little Golden Book form. However as it turns out these books are actually the menu, which was really cool. I ended up having the steak sandwich(I love my steak) and all I can say is that it was pretty good. The place also had one of those really chilled out atmospheres as well. Definitely a place I would have no problems coming back to again.

There was a time when I used to trawl through food blogs, looking for breakfast spots around the south eastern suburbs that I could be proud of. Sadly, not too much surfaced, except for this café which continued to crop up with countless searches. Finally I tried it. If it weren’t for the service I would have given it a good 4 stars. The atmosphere is alright. We came at a later part of the day, which seemed to attract only lone diners, busy in newspapers and daily calendars. The décor is nice enough — it’s sort of quant, removed from chaos. The menu is scribbled all over the wall but for the more conservative customers a laminated menu is also available. The food was quite good. I ordered a simple avocado feta mash, which was livened by a surprise pesto that really lifted the flavour. Sadly the staff were a bit consumed in their own affairs. One waitress lent quite obviously against the counter, flicking her finger across her phone looking as bored as a kid in math class. At one stage I had to ask her for an extra serviette. She was not impressed. If you’re hard-pressed for breakfast spots south of the yarra I do recommend coming here, and I think it would cater particularly well for lunch hours.
