This is another nice pub hidden away in the leafy back streets of South Melbourne(though since the tram trundles by here fairly often, I am not sure if it is really all that out of the way). When I came here it was not all that crowded, though I suspect that does change as the night wears on. There are some seats out the front, as well as a restaurant, though no beer garden(but then again not every pub can support a beer garden, and there is some outdoor seating). It was interesting to hear the bartender tell a couple of girls how cabs don’t like taking calls from pubs anymore because when they turn up half the time the patrons have all wondered off. Also, it has a pretty nice house beer.

Like the gun slinger who walked into the Last Chance Saloon at the wrong end of town, there was a stunned silence at the bar when a guy walked in and asked for a take away six pack of Jonny & Coke. This is just not that kind of pub. It’s early days yet but we’re really pleased to have the sister pub to The Fox Hotel in Collingwood in our hood. Craft beer on tap by the pint or pot, a wall of others to choose from including the not so crafted VB — handy for those moments when Mr Sticki’s Bush Brother comes to town. There’s also a small wine list, spirits and single malt whiskies to tempt those who don’t have a thirst for beer. You’ll find hearty unpretentious food — snacks, burgers, mains, vegetarian and a kids menu too. I like the convivial atmosphere and a cosy yet vaguely shambolic décor spread across two rooms. There’s a TV in one corner and pool table here too. Come as you are and try a brew or two or go up the street to Carma Cellars if you want a six pack of R2D’s.
