The Japanese efficiency. For $ 6.90 you get a decent tub of chicken or beef curry don faster than you can order a cheese burger.

Menu: Their menu is very modest and still there is variety. I’m a visitor, so have only been here twice, once for lunch; they have the lunch rush down to a science, before I can get my change from the register, my food is ready. 7 min total from when I walked thru the door. Second time was for dinner. The wait is a bit longer, but not by much. And the prices are very reasonable. Taste: Coming from Hawaii, there are many authentic Asian cuisine restaurants, and Japanese is right up there at the top. The teriyaki sauce is really good for their chicken and I think sukiyaki. But my favorite was the shoyu pork, served on rice I’m familiar with, medium grain and sticky, but not Thai sticky, Japan sticky; how sushi rice starts before all the additives. Recommendations: Go. Eat. Review. Because I stayed in a hotel in the area, I have no idea on parking. Please heed the other reviews that speak on parking cause there seems to be limited available and street.

A bit of a wait around dinner, but it seems dinner isn’t popular here. Lunch is king, I gather, and a few minutes wait around dinner isn’t to be noticed. I got the Japanese chicken curry, or some such variety of that name. Since I had not eaten much throughout the day, I got extra rice(was offered extra rice or extra chicken when I said I was very hungry, though both at extra price. Extra rice was about 70 cents or so, I don’t remember exactly). The rice was sticky and good, and of course plentiful with my monetary addition. The chicken was grilled and tasty, and in a decent quantity. The curry had some damn good flavor to it — plenty of spices and flavors, while being in a good balance with nothing overpowering. It’s quick, it’s cheap, and it’s pretty good. I’ll return!

Amazing. My company’s Melbourne office is right next to Don Don and when I’m there for work I always do lunch here. It’s Japanese noodles and curries, takeaway or eat in. The portions are big, the food is very tasty, and the price is right(everything’s under $ 10; the curries are $ 6). Most impressive is their serving efficiency. Don’t worry if you see a queue on approach; you’ll get served quickly no matter what. There are only a handful of things on the menu, and the kitchen — during busy periods — is steadily churning out the necessary elements in proportions they have learned from experience. You order fast, pay your money(cash only), and by the time you’ve put away your change they’ll probably be handing you your order. It’s lightning fast. You don’t come here for fancy or gourmet quality, you come here for taste, price, and speed.

If you work in the area you know about Don Don. Lunch is served in less than a minute and you are on your way. For less than $ 10 you will be fed by a menu that has less than 10 dishes on offer but they are simple and tasty. If you see a line out the door — a common thing at lunchtime– don’t panic and join it as you will not be waiting long.

Don Don. It’s an absolute pleasure to meet you! A couple of months ago I started working in South Melbourne, dangerously close to Don Don in fact. Within days the word had spread among my new work mates. Don Don’s is where it’s at. And by ‘it’ I mean super cheap and tasty Japanese, and ‘at’ service so fast it causes whiplash. You can eat in, but good luck during the week. Nearby office workers know that don don will get you fed, fast and cheap. the perfect workday lunch. $ 5.90 for tofu curry and a few more bucks will get you actual meat. It’s all yum really but i’m addicted to the curry. All of it. So unlike its older brother in the city you cant grab a beer here. But I’m glad, because its just too tempting. I have heard talk of a cool Japanese place around the corner. But I am yet to try it… I literally can’t walk past Don Don’s.

Got $ 5.90? You can get curry in a hurry. Tofu curry that is. My personal favourite, hot, fresh, fast and tasty. Beware vegetarians — the curry contains traces of chicken stock. For a $ or 2 more you can make that a chicken curry or a teriyaki chicken — these are what my friends prefer to the tofu. Sometimes, I will lash out the $ 9 for a salmon sashimi with tofu, lettuce, wasabi and rice. What a big spender I am! A beef dish and bento boxes are also available and are as agreeably affordable. Of course you can get more oishii(delicious) Japanese food in Melbourne but you can’t get it this fast, fresh and thrifty — all with a smile too. Arigato gozaimas.(Thank you very much) PS. If you are dining in remember to bring coins for the parking meter PPS. There is another Don Don in the city which serves the same menu in the same Olympic sprinter style fashion

I ordered 2 teriyaki chicken and 1 teriyaki pork for dinner and drove all the way home to Bacchus Marsh with the food. All this time I was thinking about the delicious dinner we were going to have. Upon reaching home, when my family and I opened up the dinner boxes — lo and behold, the teriyaki chicken smelt and even tasted burnt. The teriyaki pork were large thick pieces. The pork pieces were tough. I called the store to complain and the manager was incompetent as he could not even gather his nerve to apologise or even ask for my name. I know why their prices are cheap. Even Mcdonalds serves better food. All that glitters is not gold.

Yep. Definitely a fan, For under $ 10 you cannot really ask for more. I absolutely love the Fried Pork with Soy Sauce and rice.(Number 2 on the menu). Absolutely delicious. The amount of food you get is just enough to get you going for a few hours to dinner time. Which is just perfect because you don’t want to be too full after lunch.
