Terrible food! I had the vegetarian fried rice which was tasteless and full of mixed frozen veg(I’d recognise them anywhere), $ 11 for a bowl of that hideousness. My friend had the grey meat and noodle dish(not named as such on the menu), judging by her screwed up nose, it was also horrible! Another friend had a salad, you can’t get a salad wrong, right? Wrong! The sushi train was adequate but boring, not fresh and lacking in choice for vegetarians. The soy sauce was the only decent thing about this place. 5 unhappy dinner eaters, so disappointed on this strip of many restaurants, we chose the big dud.

Oh Australia… I expected so much from your sushi game. On the ocean, in the right part of the world(sort of) and yet the sushi I had everywhere was so, so average at best. Ginga was no exception. In full disclosure, Ginga was my first(and probably last based on this) experience with a sushi train. I don’t understand the popularity of these things, unless Australians just don’t like quality, interesting sushi. The conveyor of sadness had little variety and high prices. An «exciting» option would be salmon with *gasp* avocado on top, for $ 6. Huh? Where was the uni, the yellowtail, interesting rolls, etc. etc. I saw the same sad little dumplings sail past around 10x before we gave up with our 3 plates and left. The pro was, what little we did have here seemed nice and fresh. The variety is just way too lacking for my liking. Give me a menu, please.

Food is good and portion sizes are pretty large. Unfortunately, for us, every time we go there, there is a large difference in time between when each person’s mall is delivered. Some of our group finished eating before the other’s food arrived. Be warned, it may take a while between ordering and your food being brought out.

Situated next to the cinema in a busy location, this place is a convenient place to meet up with friends or go on a date. The staff are friendly and you are seated upon arrival. The place itself is very modern and comfortable. You can see the chefs cooking and the conveyor belt offers a large variety of foods. This includes sushi rolls, spring rolls, dumplings, pork buns and desserts. There is a menu which you can order off also and there is usually not too long of a wait. I would be inclined to try the larger dishes next time such as ramen, curries etc. however being in such a popular location, keep in mind your order can become expensive quickly.

I’ve had previously a chance to dine at Ginga in Portside, Hamilton and was happy about the food and service. Looks like not every Ginga place is on the same level. Had a chance to eat in Ginga at Grey St recently and left hugely disappointed. For two simple soups we had to wait over 40 minutes and the place wasn’t crowded. I was willing to leave after 30 minutes, but was so freakin’ hungry that decided to hang in there to finally get my delicious soup. Unfortunately my patience wasn’t rewarded — the soup was very average and the beef was so chewy I wasn’t able to eat most of it. I left a message for the chef, but it doesn’t change my overall experience. Left hungry and angry :(Definitely not going to visit this place in the future.

Meh? Service here is absolutely terrible We were seated and one of us was mid-way through ordering when he was interrupted and asked if we were paying separately to which we answered yes, we were then told to go and order/pay at the counter. Only after ordering was I asked for my ID even though my friend didn’t get asked and I’m almost a foot taller than him? Food was pretty good although one of my friends’ received his meal a good 15 minutes after the rest of the table. This place would’ve gone out of business if it wasn’t for their location.

Came here with friends for a quick and easy dinner in South Bank before a night out. Sushi train is a very economical option, we didn’t even look at the menu. Everyone was satisfied with the food that came by on the sushi train and they have bubble tea which is my personal fav. All in all good experience.

Nice service BUT incredibly average Japanese; the curry could be from a packet mix and the omelette was dry and dull. If you really need Japanese and everything else in the city is closed at least go to the take-away section and for half the price you can eat it in the park. $ 17 for these meals is absurd. No a fan.

Food was really good, had different ramen style noodles. Service was a bit slow and forgot the sushi we ordered…

I’ve been to ginga sushi a couple of times and have only ordered two dishes so far! We usually go there for the tuna sashimi as the tuna is the freshest that you can find on a sushi train as well as a la carte! The second time I went for the pork and veggie dumpling soup! When choosing a soup you can decide between 3 different broths! Went for the pork broth and it was delicious!(of course not comparable with other Ramen places) And the price is fair as well!

I am very close to jumping on the«not impressed» bandwagon here because if this restaurant was not situated right next to the South Bank cinemas complex, it would not be anywhere near as popular as it is. Ginga Sushi is just a very mediocre sushi train that can get very busy at times, therefore, a tad annoying to dine at. The service is never great but seems to get worst the busier the place gets. The first thing you notice about Ginga is that is looks very appealing from the outside, the sushi train seems to be loaded with a huge variety of dishes, the place is buzzing and the mood seems pretty exciting, no complaints there. My main complaint would be the service from the staff. Because I have only come here for the sushi train, I do not expect the greatest service however I do not appreciate being ignored when waiting to be seated or not offered any water. Once seated, things are not so bad. If I had to rate the sushi, I rate it a 6÷10− not bad, just alright. Pretty much, their sushi is nothing I would write home about. Ultimately, Ginga is just another sushi train restaurant. If you do not mind lack-lustre service and want to get sushi before watching a movie, this restaurant is sensible option. Just don’t expect the food to blow you away.

The Ginga sushi train is a winner. The range is huge, with a variety of sweet and savoury dishes, the airconditioned store is comfortable and clean, and the staff are lovely. I am a huge fan of sushi in general, and the fresher the better. The range at Ginga is always tasty and fresh. There are plenty of dessert places on the train as well, however I’m generally too full by the time I’m finished with my other plates. The train tracks are quite long, so grab what you can when it comes past!

The dangers of trusting a slippery slope can be dire! This is true of my experiences with Ginga. At once my evenings at Ginga were filled with the smiles and laughter that only good sake and sushi can bring, but now they are filled with the tears and tears alone. A few years ago my family used to patron Ginga regularly. I had recently moved out of home and I suspect my mother enjoyed watching me fervently grab plates of sushi off the train and eat them with shameless delight. During these evenings we’d often drink a few pitchers of sake and watch a movie at the cinemas next door. The service then was always efficient and relaxed. They were simple but pleasant times. Things have changed. This evening I returned to Ginga after a long absence. Upon a friend’s suggestion we went to Ginga before seeing that new film New Years Eve(another disappointment). The services right from the get go was quite hostile. We had asked if it were possible to sit at one of the booths however we were told this was an impossibility as there were only two of us. Considering it was still quite early in the evening and there was no one sitting at any of the three booths I didn’t quite understand. Taking our seats along side the train we had a perfect view of the unoccupied booths, which remained unoccupied for our entire time at the restaurant. The food itself seems to have taken a dive in quality however it was the service that mostly bothered me. We left relatively quickly as we did not feel comfortable with the atmosphere of the venue. After the cashier fumbled with our split bill we wandered to off to the fake beach close to the restaurant to cool our angered spleens. The location of Ginga is definitely a benefit however you have a lot to choose from in this area. I’d go somewhere else where your patronage may actually be valued.

Ginga Sushi is in my top two favourite sushi places. Granted, I prefer to wander in and take advantage of their sushi train rather than the waiter service with cooked Japanese food by the order, but I’ve always found their food to be fantastic and their staff to be welcoming. There’s always a really great selection of fresh sushi rolls and fried dishes(yummmm) that are ready and waiting to be plucked from the conveyor belt. There are always new things coming around and your selection is never limited. Your time however, is limited in that you cannot stay at the sushi bar for very long, but it’s still enough time to grab your favourite dishes, enjoy them in comfort, and have a good conversation with your friend. You can’t be too harsh on them for their busy space; it only adds credit to their food and their popularity. I don’t mind having to wait five extra minutes for a seat(though that’s never been the case here) because the sushi is exquisite and among my favourite choices for dinner in Brisbane, period. Ginga has always provided a delightful eating experience for me and remains one of the first choices I go to when I want a quality dinner and catch-up with friends.

I have been a long time customer of Ginga South Brisbane and I have to say I was pretty disappointed on my last visit. After a romantic walk along the river my husband and I thought some of my favourite Japanese food would top off a lovely evening. Unfortunately, after a long wait to get a table we were left pretty cold by the whole shebang. Our waitress was rude, left food on the chair from the previous diners so we had to stand for 10 minutes while she fetched a cloth, and then proceeded to ignore us for 20 minutes while we watched other tables have their orders taken. Once we finally did get our orders in, our food came out in weird timings, so we didn’t get to eat together. My edamame were so salty they needed rinsing(and I love salt, so they were REALLY salty), my vegetable tempura tasted like the oil needed changing, and my husband’s teriyaki chicken was completely standard. I wouldn’t mind if we were eating food court Japanese, but Ginga charges a premium based on their reputation. I don’t think I’ll be eating there again any time soon.

Ginga is one of the few places in Brisbane that serves hot Japanese food as well as sushi. When you go in you can choose which you would like and be seated accordingly; the restaurant is halved with a sushi train on one side and traditional tables on the other. I have not had the sushi there, as I am a huge fan of all Japanese food and couldn’t pass up the rare opportunity to have some of my favourite noodles. We all know that sushi is incredibly popular and deserves to be so, but I think hot Japanese food has been severely underrated as it was somehow forgotten when sushi made it’s grand entrance into the average Australian’s life. Japanese noodles, especially soups such as Ramen and Udon, are simply delicious. I also love Katsu Don and Gyudon, so I was thrilled to discover that Ginga offered all of these dishes along with many more. Their prices are great too, everything is under $ 20. There are locations in Fortitude Valley and one on Little Stanley St, but all three offer slightly different menus.
