Wanted to stay local for dinner and NOT go to the hyperdome, so decided to hit up Hibiscus. With only one review, but a good one at that, thought we’d give it a crack. Was a quiet Tuesday night, and were promptly served and seated by the friendly staff and given our menus. We ordered our drinks(wine and spirits are competitively priced) and food. Entrée was the calamari and the Malaysian bread. Both were amazing. Our mains were the specialty braised chicken, and the honey pepper steak. The braised chicken was decent, but the honey pepper steak was AMAZING(and was recommended to me by our waitress when I asked between that dish, and the duck… I’m a sucker for duck and wanted to be forced to try something different, and I’m glad she recommended it). Only odd thing was the timing between receiving our mains. There was about 4−5mins gab between being brought to our table. But I can look past that as the waitress did inform me of the delay straight up. Atmosphere is that, as stated in the other review, of a typical Chinese restaurant, but we still had a lovely night, and both me and the GF went home well satisfied and only cost us $ 30ea. Im not sure what serving times would be like on a busy night, but from my experience, I definitely recommend this place for a filling and ‘easy on the wallet’ Malaysian/Chinese feed.

After deciding to try some different take-away from my usual(Thai), I ventured to the drawer of menus and chose to give Hibiscus Garden a go. And I was very glad I did. Not only was the food delicious and generously portioned, but something finally clicked that night; Chinese food, whether at a restaurant or take-away, is almost always cheaper than Thai. Maybe you are now shaking your head at me in disgust of my ignorance, but this serious pro in the Chinese cuisine column had never entered my brain before. Moving on from my Newton-like enlightenment, and the delicious food, I would venture to say that Hibiscus is probably the only place in this suburb that I would choose to go out to eat at. The restaurant itself is not to die for, but it is your typical Chinese restaurant in terms of décor so it’s pleasant enough and you know what you can reasonably expect, the service is good and it’s air conditioned.
