Rocks Riverside Park

No matter what you want to do park wise this is the place for you. There are BBQ’s and beautiful picnic areas. Exceptional play equipment for the kids, paths for walking and running (try the mountain climb to get your heart pumping) dog play areas and a water play area.
The views are lovely and there is even a place to launch your boat if that’s what floats yours.

I initially came to this park after a friend decided to take her kiddies here. I brought my dog along — in hindsight not a good idea, because there’s a lot to see here, not just for humans but for dogs. And my dog wanted to inspect every piece of it.
It’s huge and sprawling — walking from one end to the other would be quite an achievement for those as lazy as myself — and there’s an impressive pool feature in the middle. The base of the pool is made of some rubber mixture in what must be a safety feature. There’s a cool little «river» of water running down the feature into the larger pool. The river part itself — no deeper than your shin at any point — was certainly the crowd favourite here (and my own), with more kids packed into the windy river than the pool itself.
There are also a few playgrounds across the park and fairly tolerable toilets. They’re metallic, outhouse-​y and feel quite public, but at least there’s toilet paper.
Despite the size of this park, it is packed on the weekends. Since I’ve been back (sans dog) I’ve found that it’s still tough to find a shady spot on a Saturday. Expect to wander aimlessly for about 15 minutes before you find an opening.
The playground structures and the pool features are so fantastic on their own at Rocks Riverside Park that it makes me wish I had stuff like this when I was a kid.

Who doesn’t love a good olé’ local park. Luckily for me, I have a winner. My family, friends and I have celebrated countless birthdays and many happy family day picnics here. They have wonderful outdoor gazebo’s, BBQ areas and great playgrounds and basketball hoops scattered around the vast park.
It’s a delightful addition to an otherwise all-​industrial area in the heart of Seventeen Mile Rocks suburb. There is plenty of parking bays, so it’s a great place to invite large groups of friends and relatives. However, it is equally important to note, that this place has become increasingly popular in recent years and finding parking on sunny days on the weekend and be some what of a challenge.
A popular park amongst local residents in the Western Suburbs and also a favourite of many other residents from all over Brisbane, this park is the perfect place to relax, have fun with the family and enjoy the sunshine. Just make sure you go early for assumed-​busy weekends!

This is a new parkland by Brisbane City Council. It’s location is historic as it’s a playground and parkland designed over an old shipping yard and it’s smack bang in the middle of the industrial area of Seventeen Mile Rocks. The entrance is a bit hidden, as you drive from the roundabout, you see a dead end… there aren’t huge signs pointing to go into the park, but when you open your eyes and actually read some smaller signs, you see it straight away, it’s on the right side by the way. Opposite the car dump site. Fancy!
Once you go in, there are plenty of places to park and an amazing array of walking paths that lead right to the rivers edge. There are some picnic tables and lots of space to play football, frisbee, take your dog, play with the kids, run around… lots of room for everyone.
This park gets packed on weekends, it’s not a mosh pit, but there are so many areas to go, you can walk past the community garden, the big ex-​shipping dock platform and learn about how they made pavements out of seashells… it’s pretty amazing. You’ll see old metal pipes, old conveyor belts they used to ship massive bits of iron in to make the ships that used to dock there.
It’s a park with a difference, you can go for a walk all around it, might even take you over an hour. There are so many different alcoves and places to explore, I haven’t even seen the half of it. But i’ll definetely be back. Recently devastated by the January floods, they have since rebuilt this place so everything is new! Bonus! They also do outdoor movies here most weekends so a treat for the kiddies as well.
