Cafe Del Pescatore

Went here when a scoopon with my mum for the three course seafood feast … Was not disappointed! A small café but the food came out quickly, the staff were very friendly and the food amount was huge! We were stuffed by the end! Delicious house wine! I had the veal… was soft and succulent! The seafood «entrée» was massive so would recommend to share with a group of four or could even have as a meal with a few wines! Everything was beautiful but I imagine it gets busy as there were a lot of people in and out when we were there! Have been back here a few times! Always nice for lunch too! Thanks for a great afternoon!

Sorry to say I did not like eating here, order was wrong and when they fix it, the fish was off and mean it was so off I couldn’t take one mouthful that’s how bad the small was. Would never go back !!! Run run far away from this place!

I eat and drink quite often in Scarborough now due to the fantastic range of restaurants and bars but haven’t been to this one for many years so when a Scoopon came up I figured it was worth a try as it appeared to be excellent value at $ 69 for three courses for 2 people including a glass of wine.
Firstly I tried to book several times over the course of two months only to be told that bookings for Scoopon customers were limited and I could not get in at any of the times I wanted, one time was a Tuesday lunch and I was told we couldn’t use the voucher at this time… We decided to go to another restaurant for lunch anyway (the Beach bar directly above) and when we went passed Café Del Pescatore we noticed that they only had 6 people in the restaurant so it didn’t make sense that we couldn’t get a booking.
So, finally we got a booking on a Wednesday evening and was greeted by a waitress by the name of Autumn (beautiful name) and she was lovely, very friendly, bubbly and helpful and by far the best staff member we had throughout the evening.
We ordered a shared plate for entrée, it was huge and quite nice but way too much food on it.
For mains I had the barramundi which was described as crispy skinned with a fennel and citrus salad. The skin was soggy, the fish was overcooked and as for the salad, it was rocket with a shaving of fennel and a piece of what I think was orange.
Hubby had the fillet steak, he asked for medium rare but it came more medium to well done and was tasteless, accompanied by a tomato, halved and grilled and some sliced fried potatoes with a pot of what looked like sour cream with a bit of pepper in it… again, not as described in the menu.
Both dishes were so unimaginative and tasteless; we only ate approx. ¹⁄₃ of the food yet no one asked if we had any problems with it.
It’s also worth noting that for a seafood restaurant there really wasn’t much seafood on the menu at all!
Dessert was quite limited so we opted for the home made chocolate brownie and the Tiramisu, they were very average and again the portion size of the brownie was huge… we also didn’t eat them.
This restaurant would be better to review their dated menu, reduce the portion sizes and drop their prices, it’s currently charging 5 star prices for what I would describe as dated 2 star food.
If we have been paying full price our meal including drinks would have come to around $ 190… most definitely not worth it at all so I’m glad we had the Scoopon!
We saw lots of people walk up to look at the menu and I would say 85% walked away.
The seats outside are uncomfortable and inside needs some money spending on it to make it more inviting… I don’t think its changed much in 17 years needless to say that we won’t be back any time soon., Scarborough has so much more to offer.

Lunch or afternoon snacks are great here. Our favourite is the cajun calamari. Service is also good — servers cooperate and share tables. We don’t miss an opportunity to stop here qhen we’re in the area.

Very limited breakfast menu. If all you want is eggs then you’re set. Alas, even those were mushy and gross. Bacon is basically ham. Tried to charge us $ 3.30 extra for a slice of grilled tomato (welcome to Australia) when we didn’t even order any. 10% surcharge on weekends and holidays. Slow service. Won’t be going back
