I honestly dropped past this café getting off the tram with my partner and was so delighted with my choice. I decided to have a late breakfast, and chose an odd ‘Devil’s Eggs’ which were eggs baked in a hot iron cask with some sort of tomato/​chorizo sauce, it was an interesting choice but turned out to be delicious. My partner stuck with the standard Eggs Benedict which they served on a potato roesti and once again she was delighted. We finished with a coffee and shared a slice of cake, which was a beautiful combination of coffee and chocolate. We enjoyed this part so much we bought a full one to take home to dinner! Our whole family loved the cake. I, for one, will most certainly be returning to this classic yet quirky new addition Carlisle St.

We would love to be able to give Truffles a higher rating as it is a great looking restaurant with lovely staff. We have bought cakes twice in the past fortnight and they were very very disappointing. The layer gateaux we bought 6 slices to take home — the icing tasted cheap and the cake was just so dry and stale we threw half of it away it was so unappetizing. The caramel slice we tried in the restaurant was fresh but the caramel was very grainy from the sugar in it. We sadly won’t be back even though we’d love to make your place a regular as its close to home and oh so pretty inside with a welcoming atmosphere.
