I think 2 stars might be overly generous but here goes… firstly, they couldn’t make me a soy hot chocolate because their chocolate powder has milk in it. I asked the waitress whether there might be some dark chocolate without dairy in the kitchen and she just shut me down with a no before I could quite finish the question… asked whether the brekkie would still cost $ 18 even though I was subtracting the eggs and fetta(most expensive bits)… Frankly, at this point I was ready to leave but my partner was hungry. Sat outside and grease under the table put a big brown smear on my pale tan pants. I told the waiter and showed him the stain, and he went to the table and looked under the wrong bit of it — we’d moved tables for obvious reasons — then he just went away and NEVERCAMEBACK!!! Staff just watched us wrestling with napkins, iced water and rock salt for 15 mins while we tried to get the stains out. The food wasnt terrible but average, and service made it a lame place — and the view is grim out over the back of a caravan park. Well worth the petrol to drive on to Sorrento!!!

The coolest looking café with trendy staff on Rye’s main strip is nothing to write home about… But I guess I will… Sunday brunching there was an interesting experience, by far the best choice on the strip and the only venue with more than one table occupied. We think many of those there had at one point been dissapointed by the Conti(in nearby Sorrento) the night before. I guess for the fact that they seem chilled out, my major beef(pardon the pun) was the statement«No alterations for when we are busy» also $ 3 for extras is a bit rich. I had the breakfast burger which was good yet messy and tried some of my friend’s Hollandaise Sauce. Super average and named after some random person. … Probably won’t be back! Would rather travel to Sorrento or Mornington

2.3 for lunch. Service was painfully, agonizingly slow. Cheap is such a relative word! After scanning the Urbanspoon reviews of this breakfasty/brunch/sandwichy joint right across the street from the beach, I would have expected cheap prices as well. But $ 16USD for a lunch bubble and squeak(tasted fine, but not traditional at all), or a burger and fries for over what I would have expected to pay, a few smoothies, and cresting well over $ 30 for lunch. The sun was strong in this resort time, when we hit it up on a weekday… less people, more private feel. Easy drive down from the St Kilda area. We sat outside, and there are about 3 tables available(most taken, surprisingly!). The quality of the food overall was fair, portions were about average. Price was still little surprising. But easy to find, along the few eating establishments to choose from along the same strip(did not want souvlaki, or charcoal chicken here). Not too terribly much to look at it except cars passing by the highway lane. It’s a dinko seaside town, after all. Can’t quite see Port Philip Bay across the way, and that was a crying shame.
