It is a costly restaurant as you share the dishes as they’re all small, the fettuccine with chilli, the special eggplant and the coconut rice dessert are must haves!!! The staff was super friendly and helpful and overall it was a great experience

Young, modern, funking and nice atmosphere with a great location at elizabetb bay. Super enthusiasm staff who are always welcoming and attentive. Food are fresh and tasty and different from anywhere else. However, we believe it is slight over priced because the portion is just too small.

Late rowdy dinner here last night with two friends. It was pouring rain and the inside of ACME was bustling. They played the greatest r&b hits of the 90s up loud, the cocktails were perky, the fire alarm went off twice and the firetruck came racing down the street sirens up. The staff swear and speak to you like you’re old friends — my thank you for a Campari Soda met with a ‘you’re bloody welcome.’ The salmon jatz were so good we had 3 plates. The food is eclectic, fun and marvellous in parts, but it’s the personality of this place that I really loved. 5 stars.

A celebration Dinner! I have graduated! Hoorah! Finally! So to celebrate we decided to visit the Best Restaurant of the Year 2015… dun dun duhhhh it is ACME! This restaurant is from the same guys who brought you The Passage. For some reason I thought this place may be cartoon based but alas its a different ACME not the one I used to watch Saturday mornings when i was a kid: D To start i got the Blood Orange — Braulio, Prosseco, Sage Cocktail, came with a lot of ice so it felt like a spritzer! It was tasty! Lasted me the whole night and probably because i had to drive i could only have one! Everything is meant to be shared on their menu and all items are small portions, so be warned! All dishes were shared amongst 3 people. Items we ordered for entrée & main were: ~Baloney Sandwich ~Burrata, tomato jam, toast ~Linguine, black garlic, burnt chilli ~Rye malloreddus, cherry tomatoes, pesto ~Spaghetti, pippies, bottarga And of course for dessert they only have 3 options so we ordered them all! All $ 10 each ~salted caramel swirl, cookie, ice magic ~Coconut rice cream, white Chocolate ~Pine nut ice cream, rhubarb, cereal Highlights were the Burrata, Linguine & Spaghetti and from the desserts the Coconut rice cream & Pine nut. Our booking was from 6.30pm and by the time we left at 8.30 the place was packed! It would be best to book in advance to avoid disappointment. Overall, had a great first time visit and would certainty go back!

The food at ACME is overpriced and underwhelming. It bothers me to hate on a place but in this case I feel like I have to. Don’t waste your time.

We were downstairs, smelled like I was in a sewer. The food was bland, except for the macaroni with egg yolk(that was delicious!). Servings were truly tiny. The waitress was surly and rude. The toilet… Omg… It smells like a toilet on a yacht! Simple details not taken care of — we had a bin sitting behind a gate right next to our table. Overall disappointing, I do not recommend!

We went to ACME Friday night — didn’t have a booking but they squeezed us in after waiting at the standup bar downstairs. I had read a few reviews, not all of them favorable but decided to give it a go. I’m so so glad we did. Here are the great things about this place — — first of all great space, very funky! — staff were fab — our waitress was so lovely we were really happy with her — the food was ah-may-zing! I’ve told 3 or 4 people about it since the weekend — wine list is to die for! If you’re looking for a traditional /run of the mill Italian place– this is NOT it. But if you want a great meal that’s different and you appreciate your food you will love this place. I will be back for sure!

Guess what just become one of my favourite restaurants? Aside from the slightly wanky staff and the tiny table, everything about ACME was great. The food just kept getting better and better. There were four of us, and the waiter recommended we get around five starters and five pastas to share. We went for four of each(shared the entrees and had our own pastas), and while we probably could have kept eating, it was enough. For the starters, we had the king brown mushrooms, the bread with dashi butter, the burrata with figs and the carpaccio. So, so good. All of them. For the pasta, I had to try the macaroni with pigs head and egg yolk — don’t let the«weirdness» of the description put you off, it was one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. The pork was really just some delicious slow-cooked pork, if you hadn’t read the«head» part of the description, you’d be none-the-wiser. I’m not sure if there were other ingredients in the sauce, because I’m generally not a fan of eggs, but it was damn delicious. My friends had the chicken and leek pasta, and the chilli linguini — both were nice(but the macaroni was better).

A nice little addition to the area. Was I blown away? Sadly, no. Came here on a rainy Friday night with my husband. We had made a last minute booking and they were very accommodating. Loved the atmosphere — laid back with a side of hip. The staff are welcoming, friendly and professional. The food for us, was a little underwhelming. Not sure if we just ordered the wrong dishes or just wasn’t our to our taste. We did thoroughly enjoy the burrata though(definitely order that). We didn’t try dessert, maybe that would have made up for it. All in all, worth checking out but we won’t be returning any time soon.

Although my experience at Acme was underwhelming, I can appreciate that a number of dishes do deserve a mention. The baloney sandwich was such a pleasant surprise, despite being smaller than a child’s fist, not looking particularly appetizing, and being $ 8, this is really worth trying. It made my meal. The macaroni tasted wholesome and the pasta was very well done, the incorporation of the egg yolk and chilli was interesting. I also ordered the peppers, potato & leek, and the pea pistachio salad — these did not make an impression and although no dishes were bad, I did leave feeling like the whole place is far too hyped up. Each to their own though.

My fiancé and I have been walking thus place all week since we started taking our puppy to the park and yesterday we decided it was time to try it out. As we walked home from the park, we put our name on the list for s table around 8:30. We went home, watched some Harry Potter, and then around 9 had yet to hear so we decided to wander down and see what was going on. We came in and the place was packed but the hostess told us we could wait at the downstairs bar, order a drink or two and some nosh, and then when a table freed up she would seat us there. The place is really cool on the inside. Kind of deconstructed with exposed brick and simple decorations, but looks nicer and more put together than similarly designed like Yellow or Apollo. They also have a great hip hop/r&ab track list that the staff clearly love because they kept dancing to it. My fiancé ordered some rose and I ordered a pear cocktail, which was only 1 of 4 cocktails they have on the menu. I’d like a little more variety, but the cocktail I had was great so I can’t complain. We ordered some arancini balls and some spanner crab and mascarpone toast and were reseated to the bar upstairs. This was great, except so m ay bars have chairs with no backs which calls for an uncomfortable meal experience. Regardless, the food started coming out and everything was good. I didn’t give this restaurant 5 stars because nothing made me go omg I have to come back for this, except for the malteser and candied bacon once cream, which one of the top 5 desserts I’ve had in sydney. Overall we ordered arancini balls, spanner crab toast, baloney sandwich, goat bucatini, burata and nectarines, pig head macaroni and the candied bacon ice cream. Cute place, great vibe. Check it out

ACME, which stands for the first names of the owners is a new hip pasta joint in Rushcutter’s Bay, right next to King’s Cross. Mitch Orr, also known as @instakrill on Instagram runs this place with aplomb. Hip hop blasts in the background, the service is pleasant, and the kitchen staff quick. Don’t call this Italian food or Modern Italian because it’s more so fusion than anything. There are tons of Asian influences in the dishes so don’t come here expecting a traditional Italian joint, as many dishes are experimental. You probably want to book, but we were lucky to snag the last two seats walking in last night around 630pm. We started with the asparagus and brown butter, the beef tartare, and a baloney sandwich. The asparagus is blanched just right, and the brown butter is actually more like a salted caramel believe it or not. I was a fan. The beef tartare was more interesting than delicious to me. It wasn’t bad, it was just different. The baloney sandwich was awesome. Don’t balk at paying $ 8 for this bad boy because it’s worth it. The housemade ketchup goes really well with baloney, and brings back memories of eating something like this as a kid. Just higher quality. We ordered the fettuccine, spring vegetables, black sesame and the lasagna, mushroom, sheep’s curd for mains. Big fan of the lasagna, it doesn’t look or taste like a traditional lasagna as it’s more deconstructed, but I really enjoyed the mushroom and curd. The lasagna could have been a little softer though. The fettuccine grew on me, didn’t like it at first as the spring vegetables gave it a very bitter flavour but after a few bites you enjoy it more. I’d be keen to try the linguine next as it looks like a mee goreng. I also saw a lot of the burrata, fennel, seaweed going out, so would be keen to try that as well. Definitely a new and interesting place to check out for the hip crowd.

Oh yeah this pasta is good. Please order the bucattini with goat, olive and Ndjua. My first encounter with this awakwardly elegant shaped pasta. Its like spaghetti but hallowed out in the middle. The tubes of pasta wrap around tender shreds of goat. Add a hit of hotness from the salami paste(Ndjua) and its pretty perfect! There are definitely service teething problems. .our order took a while. But I’d return for bucattini and ambience. Its pretty cool inside… in an im-not-even-trying-to-be-stylish way. Youll wonder what these rooms housed before ACME. An obvious choice for the casually hip crowd. Hip doesn’t discriminate on age here either.

What an impressive new contribution to postcode 2011’s offering. I am a little bemused by how many«Modern Italian» places we can have in the 2000,2010 and 2011 postcodes — however this one stands tall amongst the others. Firstly the manager who greeted us at the door(previously seen at The Passage) is the exact warm welcome you want when walking into a restaurant — warm, inviting and makes you feel oh so special. Service overall was efficient, no fuss and informed — just the way I like it. Tell me how to order, tell me what I should have and know your bloody alcohol selection. They nailed it! The food is interesting and surprising at times without being too stuffy and serious. We had snacks to start including prosciutto and rock melon(prosciutto was dried and blitzed creating this amazing crackly dust), fried artichokes with chamomile cream(heaven!) and raw cuttlefish on toast(not my idea of a good time — my least favourite due to texture and taste). The pasta was amazing with interesting combinations of amazingly fresh pasta — the spring vegetable fettuccine a stand out! We were incredibly tempted by the Malteaser Ice Cream topped with dried and blitzed bacon(sensing a theme coming on?) — we gobbled it up. Overall a fantastic mix of great interior design, fantastic service and interesting food! I would book a table and check it out :)
