I know its gross but sometimes when I’m desperate for sashimi I go down to Woolworths and buy a piece of raw salmon, even though I know it’s not sashimi grade, but I disguise the ‘fishiness’ by adding extra wasabi to the soy. Knowing it’s my weakness, of course whenever I go to Japanese restaurants I always place an order. I’m glad to report there’s nothing fishy with the sashimi at Sakura. The thicker than usual slices of salmon, tuna and white fish melted in my mouth. Their agadashi tofu also passed the test being crunchy on the outside with a silky soft centre and a refreshing, soy-based dipping sauce. Their standard fare such as the tempura, curry and teriyaki chicken was just average but as far as I’m concerned, their excellent sashimi makes up for this. Don’t forget to try their green tea ice-cream. It’s delicious even if it can cause insomnia if ordered too late in the evening.
